HILDEGARDE WIENS February 22, 1924 - June 23, 2015 Hildegarde Wiens, 91, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Oakview Place in Winnipeg. She was born in Russia on February 22, 1924 to Jacob and Susanna Wiens. The family immigrated to Canada by ship in 1925. Hilda attended Dakota School in Elm Creek during her early years, and graduated from MCI Collegiate in Gretna. She received her nursing training at the St. Boniface School of Nursing, and worked as a nurse for 30 years (1955 to 1985) at St. Boniface Hospital; a number of those years she was Head Nurse on the gynaecological floor. Following retirement, Hilda cared for her aging parents and Aunt Annie. She enjoyed travelling and spent a number of years travelling the world with friends. In 1944, Hilda was baptized in Elm Creek, and attended Elm Creek Mennonite Brethren Church until she moved to Winnipeg, where she attended Portage Mennonite Brethren Church. Although Hilda never had children, she loved them dearly and was a World Vision sponsor. Hilda was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Susanna, and brother Peter. She is survived by extended family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Portage Avenue Church, with Pastor Bert Bell officiating. Burial will follow the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. The extended family wishes to thank the staff of Oakview Place for their care and kindness of "Hilde" over the past two and a half years. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715
