ELIZABETH HUGHES Elizabeth (Betty) Patricia Hughes of Winnipeg, Manitoba, beloved wife of Brian, passed away suddenly on June 23, 2015 at the age of 72 years. Growing up Betty spent a lot of time on the family farm with her many cousins and extended family. After moving to the city, she became an avid bowler and had a passion for curling, which, even up to this past winter you could not get her away from the TV when the Scotties or the Brier was on. After graduating from Sisler High School, she moved to Toronto, where she met her one true love, Brian. Brian and Betty both ended up moving back to Winnipeg where they married on May 15, 1965 - celebrating 50 wonderful years together. Betty loved going to the cottage at Winnipeg Beach and spent many summers there with her kids and grandkids. She was an avid gardener, who enjoyed spending time tending to her many flowers she had planted around the yard. Betty also loved her jigsaw puzzles - there was never a time you wouldn't find one under construction at the house or cottage. She was also an amazing cook, with her specialty being her roast beef dinner which we quite often got together for on Sundays. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, which was evident with the many pictures she had on display around her home. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Polly Huppe, her mother and father-in-law Violet and Albert Hughes, and her brother-in-law Don Hughes. Betty is survived by her husband of 50 years, Brian, son Greg (Wendy), daughter Kathy (Mike), and grandchildren Melissa, Connor, Trent and Brandon. She is also survived by her twin brother Bobby (Margaret) and family. The family would like to thank Dr. Kotecha and staff at the Assiniboine Clinic for the care they have given Betty over the years. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. Interment and reception will follow. • I was so sorry to hear about Betty's passing. I often think of her and the important role she played in my life as I was growing up across the street, when I ride my bike past the houses of my youth. Her yard and flowers were always so lovely and her generosity and spirit were always appreciated.
