I was so shocked and saddened to hear that Donnie (always Donnie to me) had passed away. I remember when we first met, you were training at portage & collegiate and Stu whispered in my ear "there has been a bomb threat phoned in, keep your trainee calm, but but get the hell out of the Branch" We all went to the "A" for lunch and I met Donnie later that day. Your wedding p that you were. Then the babies started coming and we lost track of each other. Next thing I know "Madame Laura is teaching Robyn and now Laura has 3 kids and Robyn is 21. What happened? You and Donnie dancing to "wipeout" . Every girl watching the two of you dance,, and wondering why the rest of us got stuck with the husband s that had two left feet. If we were really lucky we could grab Donnie for a dance but that didn't happen very often. I'm sorry that time slipped away on us and I we didn't keep in touch. You were one of the couples that we had so much fun with in our early Banking days, and those times I cherish. I am so very sorry for your loss pat(and family) Love Kathye was on display in the photography studio at the Birchwood Inn, you two being the beautiful and photogenic couples - Posted by: Kathy Njegovan (Friend) on: Jul 06, 2015

Sad to read of Don's passing. I sat in the cubicle beside him for his last couple of years at GWL. Don was an interesting person, not one for convention! he talked of his plans for building the straw bale house and ideas for his own electric car. I'm glad I knew him for that short time and enjoyed his company as an office mate. My condolences to his family and friends, you will miss him deeply. - Posted by: Bruce Forsyth (Co-worker) on: Jul 06, 2015

Dear Newbury Family, my heart goes out to you, with sincerest condolences. I am very grateful that I had the absolute pleasure of knowing your dear husband, father, brother and son Don. I was so very saddened to learn, only this morning (July 6) of Don's passing. In my younger years I was blessed to know all the Newbury's, as they always graciously welcomed me into their home and consistent family fun! It was always fun and laughter in the Newbury home! It was Don, who connected Barb and I to our first jobs at GWL. May you find peace and comfort in the arms of your wonderful family..... hold each other close. I am so very sorry....my heart and prayers are with you. "A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again. ~Maya Angelou - Posted by: Lynda Whale (Cruickshank) ((Friend to Barb and Dave Sinclair & Newbury family) ) on: Jul 06, 2015

We were so saddened to hear of Don's illness and sudden passing. He was truly a remarkable man, loving husband, father and grandfather. What a journey to go through over the past year and a half, with such a supportive and loving partner as Pat. Treasure your memories of the times you had together with your beloved, Donny, and find comfort in that. Girls, take comfort in your father's love of you and value of family and protection of you. He will be missed by all but with fond memories in every way. - Posted by: Glenda Hedley (friend) on: Jul 06, 2015

Truly saddened by the sudden news of Donny's passing. Although we have not seen the family for many years, did not mean that we had forgotten. Many times we would look at old family photos and Mom would say "oh Donny is such a nice boy". I know you will all miss him but you will also have many good memories because he was "such a nice boy who grew to be such a nice man" sent with much love to all the family - Posted by: Auntie Dot and Edna (Aunt and cousin) on: Jul 05, 2015

So sad to hear of this loss. Don was a great guy and you were an amazing couple. I worked with Don many years ago at GWL, and crossed paths again when he consulted there and at the GWL Dinner and Dance. His parting words from the dance were to keep you posted on live music gigs with danceabe music; and I did. Memories are of his ever changing beards and mustaches he wore well, framing his smile, and you both dancing. - Posted by: Brenda Toutant (co-worker) on: Jul 04, 2015

My heartfelt wishes go out to Pat, family and my old and good friend George. Pat, I am so sorry to hear of Don's passing. When we saw him at Bourkevale C.C., Assiniboine School while the kids were all there and just walking around the neighbourhood was always pleasant as we could catch up on our respective families. Later, I would often see him at Great-West Life since we both worked here. We've lost another one of the good ones. My deepest condolences to you and the girls & their families. We were so shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Don's untimely passing. We know that he was so beloved by his soulmate, best friend and dance partner for life Pat, and adored by all his girls and grandchildren, who delighted his heart. He was a man who gave to the community, helped a lending hand to those in need in the community, his precious daughters, family and friends. He was rich with love and family treasures. I so enjoyed seeing the absolute thrill in his eyes in photos of him with his precious grandchildren, it was clearly evident they were his pride and joy. Don was always so involved in his daughters' lives and activities alongside Pat. The whole community marveled at the endless energy they exuded together, they were a true partnership and team. My greatest memory of Don will always be his utter joy dancing with his beloved Pat. They loved to dance together and it was incredibly beautiful to witness! Our deepest heartfelt condolences go out to you Pat and all the girls who have lost their beloved Daddy. You all have lived life richly and to the fullest and have so many treasured memories, may they be a source of strength and comfort to you at this very, very difficult time. Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with you all. - Posted by: Heather and Paul Bourget and family (Friends) on: Jul 01, 2015

I am so sorry to hear of Don's passing. He was always a cheerful guy when we worked together at GWL. Years ago, many of us from work had gone out to his house at lunch time, to see the addition he had made to the house, and it was a well done job - except for those baseboards - we laughed a lot about that. Rest in peace, Don. - Posted by: Linda Hall (former co-worker at GWL) on: Jun 30, 2015
