Date of Passing: Jun 28, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN BERNICE REESE (nee BUCK) Suddenly, from complications of heart disease, on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Health Sciences Centre CCU, Joan Reese passed away at the age of 77. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kim Treller (Jim), Jennifer Reese (Todd De Ryck); granddaughter Kassandra Black (Treller); her brothers, Bob (Rose) Buck and Tim Buck, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Doug Reese in 2011 and parents, John Buck in 1972 and Emily Buck in 2007. She was born and raised in Stonewall, Manitoba. After high school, she worked for MTS as an operator, then in the finance department at the downtown Hudson's Bay Store in Winnipeg. She met her husband Dough Reese on a blind date on April Fool's Day in 1962. They were married August 3, 1963. They lived in Stonewall until 1973, where they moved to a farm in the Balmoral area. Joan worked for many years as a receptionist at the Doctor's Unit at the Stonewall Evelyn Memorial Hospital. She also worked briefly for the Rockwood Agricultural Society, Charlie Slater Insurance in Balmoral, as an Administrative Secretary and Health Care Aide in Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall. After retirement, Doug and Joan sold the farm and moved to Sandy Hook, Manitoba, until Doug's death in 2011. She moved briefly to Winnipeg and then in April 2014, she moved to Stonewall Lion's Manor. Joan was always very active in volunteering in the communities where she lived. She was a talented cook, known for her amazing baking. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crafts and gardening. During her marriage to Doug, they enjoyed travelling, golfing, fishing and hosting family functions and dinner parties. Family and friends were important to her. She had a group of girlfriends from high school that kept in touch over the years and would get together regularly. She was able to go to Hawaii this year, one of her lifelong wishes, with her daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Todd. Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend; a gentle spirit and generous soul. We love her dearly and she will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank Jim Campbell, Kris Laxdal, Stonewall Paramedics, staff at St. Boniface Heart Catheter Clinic, Dr. Jain, nurses Chi and Miranda, and all the staff at HSC CCU for their efforts and care they provided to our mother. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in her memory can be made to a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall. MacKenzie Funeral Home 204-467-2525 mackhome@mts.net
