VILBORG THORDARSON March 15, 1933 - June 30, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vilborg Thordarson on June 30, 2015, peacefully, with her family by her side, at the Gimli Community Health Centre. Mom fought very hard to stay with us all, but left us to be with Dad. She will be lovingly remembered by her five children, Douglas (Sharon), Leslie (Sharon), Norma Walld, Dolores Harrop (Greg) and Russell (Lynne). She will be missed by her 10 grandchildren Tracy, Corey, Tim, Erin, Tamara, Jon, Braden, Cailey, Andrea and Lindsay, along with her five great-grandchildren Johannah, Arika, Layla, Alicia, and Owen. Mom was born on March 15, 1933 in Riverton, MB to Bjarni and Bjorg Vigfusson. She married her best friend and life long companion Norman Thordarson on August 4, 1951. They were married for 58 years before Dad's passing on November 14, 2009. One of Mom's favourite things was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Mom took great pride in her Icelandic Heritage. Nobody made vinetarta like Mom, or rulapylsa with the help of Dad. Mom's hands were never idle, making Icelandic sweaters for all her children and grandchildren. Mom was a devoted wife, mother and Amma and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is also survived by her sisters, Gunna, Inga, Alice, Lily and Darlene along with numerous nieces and nephews. Amma will be missed by her golden girls Lacey and Leah. The family would like to thank the staff at the Gimli Community Health Centre, and Dr. Beik, for the care and compassion shown to her. As per Mom's request, cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gimli Palliative Care, Box 250, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0.
