Date of Passing: Jul 02, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLIVE ELLEN KANDIA (NEWTON) 1925 - 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Olive Ellen Kandia of Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 2, 2015, at the age of 89 years, at the Grace Hospital. Olive will be greatly missed by her husband Bill, of whom she had been married for 68 years, her daughters Elaine (Gary Tully) and Lorraine, as well as her precious grandsons Lee (Kari) and Brandon, and her beloved little dog Penny. Olive was predeceased by her parents Janet and Ernest Newton, and her brothers Robert and Edward. Mom was born in Winnipeg. She had a childhood filled with great fun, good friends, laughter and adventure. She spent many happy times at the family cottage at Grand Beach. During the Second World War, Mom met the love of her life, Bill who was serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force taking a wireless gunnery course. They married after the war in 1947. Mom and Dad built a life together and raised their two daughters whom she loved dearly. Mom continued the family tradition of happy summers at the cottage in Grand Beach. With her husband Bill, Mom travelled to Hawaii, Great Britain, Europe and many destinations in the United States and Canada. Mom enjoyed travelling and meeting many new friends that she kept in touch with for many years. Mom was a faithful member of the Eastern Star, The Ladies of the Nile (in which she played in the tambourine band) and Saint Chad's Anglican Church. Mom was a fun loving woman and had many friends. She enjoyed a good "off colour" joke and family get-togethers. Mom's heart was open to everyone and no one was a stranger to her but rather a friend she hadn't met yet. Mom loved her family unconditionally and will be missed daily. Nana will be greatly missed by her grandsons whom she adored and her little dog Penny. Our family would like to thank Dr. Elin Bergman, Dr. Ron George, Chaplain Jonathon and the staff at the Grace Hospital for their excellent care and compassion showed to Mom and us during this difficult time. According to Mom's wishes there will be a private funeral service with Chapel Lawn in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that a donation may be made to Shriners Children's Hospital or The Winnipeg Humane Society. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

Olive and Bill were wonderful neighbours to my mother Lil at Grand Marais. Olive would visit and tell jokes. She had a great sense of humour. We especially enjoyed the Lawn Dart Tournament that Olive joined in for 20 years. Our condolences to Bill and the family. Olive was a real classy lady and she will be missed. - Posted by: Joan and Ken Einarson (Friends and Neighbours at Grand Marais) on: Jul 04, 2015
