It is with great sadness that I heard about the passing of Auntie Lorraine, but at the same time, it has sparked numerous memories from my childhood that make me smile. Things lost in the subconscious part of my brain, but still etched into my personal being, part of what makes me, me. Family was very important to Auntie Lorraine. I loved that in her. Family was always around. Whether it was at a wedding, or at Christmas, or just on a warm weekend evening, family was always there. The smile! The smile that she had, driven by the extended family. Her kids, us, Uncle Mike, Uncle Bill. She was so happy to have us at the house. And the house. I have memories of the kitchen table with everyone gathered around. Little figurines which you would get from tea boxes were our favorite play toys. And she would always make sure we left with one or more. She was very caring, considerate, she was a hostess, but in the end, she was a very nice inviting person to me. She remembered me until the last time she saw me. We had a special bond. Not just Aunt and Nephew, but friends. From 15,000 km away, I truly wish I could have been able to say goodbye in person, but instead, I went to a beautiful monastery and lit a candle, and I prayed that she was happy and healthy again in God's kingdom. My bet is that she is sitting with Uncle Mike and Auntie Stella, and with Grandpa, and they are playing cards, enjoying a shot of whiskey and they are all laughing and smiling. The laugh and the smile will be with me until I join them one day. I will miss you Auntie Lorraine. - Posted by: Brian Kuz (Nephew) on: Jul 05, 2015
