Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALBERT ARTHUR OWEN "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." (John 5:24) "Death has been swallowed up in victory." (1 Corinthians 15:54) On June 18, 2015 Albert "Al" Owen passed from this life to the next. He lived over 90 years on this earth and will be missed by his family and friends. Al loved to visit with people and enjoyed telling stories of his life and many adventures. He celebrated a 90th birthday party in October, 2014 with many friends and family members in attendance. Al was born in Waskatenau, Alberta and grew up surrounded by a large family. He was a naval petty officer during the war and was posted to Halifax where he met Elaine Naugler, the love of his life. The couple was married in Edmonton on November 9, 1946. Sixty years later, on November 11, 2006, Elaine and Al celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in Winnipeg. Al was a business man and spent many years as general manager and partner with All-Fab Building Components. Al is survived by one sister, Hazel, of Calgary; daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Gordon Baker of Edmonton; grandchildren Andrew Baker (Kristin Sumner) of Winnipeg, Ainsley (Brent) Thesen of Calgary, Allister (Melissa) Baker, Adrianne and Alyssa Baker, all of Edmonton; one great-grandchild, Jocelyn; and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews across Canada, the United States and Norway. Al is also survived by his many "adopted" children and grandchildren from the Filipino community, whom he loved as dearly as his biological family. Al will also be missed by his long-time community neighbours, members of Broadway Disciples United Church, the Christian Church (D of C) across Canada and Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church. Al was predeceased by his wife, Elaine, in 2007; sister Pearl; and four brothers, Ray, Len, Bob and Dave. A service to honour Al's life was held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Broadway Disciples United Church in Winnipeg. If friends wish, donations may be made to Broadway Disciples United Church or to a charity of one's choice. The family wishes to extend thanks to the members of Broadway Disciples United Church for their love and concern throughout the years and to the staff at Irene Baron Eden Centre and River East Personal Health Care facility for their help and support during Al's time in their care.
