LAURIE KATHLEEN KESSLER June 12, 1962 - July 4, 2015 With profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved daughter Laurie, after a valiant, hard fought struggle. She passed at home, as per her wishes, on Saturday, July 4, 2015, knowing she was loved. Laurie will be greatly missed by her mom and dad, Shirley and Alan Kessler. Laurie overcame many health challenges in her too short life. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 19, undergoing a kidney transplant at age 37 and battling cancer for the past four years. She chose not to be defined by her illnesses and fought for her independence. After early retirement as Secretary / Treasurer in the family business she discovered the world of golf - opening up a whole new fashion venue for her. For the past seven years Palm Desert, CA has been her "Happy Place", especially the designer shops on El Paseo. The past four years have been a difficult journey, and to those who walked it with us, we thank you. Special thank you to the Renal Clinic Team; 16 years of care, CancerCare Urgent Care, who saved us many trips to Emergency; the Chemo Unit for their compassion during this journey. Thanks to Pam, you helped make the pain bearable. Heather, we are ever grateful for your guidance. Lastly to the Palliative Care Team who enabled us to keep Laurie at home, we couldn't have done it without you. No more testing, no more needles, no more chemo and mostly, no more pain. Rest in Peace our dear Laurie. A private graveside service was held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. If so desired, friends may make a donation in Laurie's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice. I was saddened to hear of Laurie's passing. Although I have only known you a short time, I have many beautiful memories of your Mother/Daughter fashion play dates at the boutique. We shared many laughs as well as stories. Laurie was one lucky daughter to have such devoted parents such as yourselves to see her through the many challenging times in her short life. I wish you both a lifetime of memories of your beautiful daughter. Fondly, Joan(formerly of Peppertree Fashions) - Posted by: Joan Leslie-Thomson (Friend) on: Jul 15, 2015

I am sorry to hear of this. I think of you all often including Kevin. There is no word in our language for when you lose a child as there is if you lose a spouse, or parent. I believe that is because it's not supposed to happen. Regardless of the age of circumstances it's just not supposed to happen where we outlive our children. - Posted by: Ed Beaudette (Family Friend) on: Jul 12, 2015
