PATRICIA JEAN RANKIN Peacefully, on July 13, 2015, our mom passed away at home, at the age of 70. Patricia was born November 6, 1944, to Lucien and Catherine Piche (Sagasky) in Ponteix, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, William Keith Rankin, her parents Catherine and Lucien, her stepfather Rene Legeault, her brother Roger Piche and sister-in-law Terry Piche. She is survived by her children Andrew (Alli) and Catherine (Kevin), grandchildren Fisher, Sadie and Grayson Banks, and Liam Rankin, her brothers Bob Piche (Norma), Jim Piche (Doris) and sister Carol Piche Rogers (Dwayne), and many nieces and nephews. Pat grew up in a small French town outside of Swift Current, called Ponteix. She was a figure skater, an artist and the class Valedictorian of her graduating year. She left Ponteix to pursue a degree in Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. She continued on in her schooling, completing a second degree in Education. Pat and Keith met during their studies at the University of Manitoba, and later married in 1969. Pat began teaching Nursery at Wellington School in the Winnipeg School Division. She loved working with children, and shortly after beginning her career, started a family of her own. She was actively involved in volunteer work, whether it be canvassing for the Heart and Stroke Society, or in the school library at St. John's Ravenscourt. She was a caring individual who always thought of others, and always wanted to help. Pat loved to garden. She enjoyed arranging flowers and planting a multitude of plants in her garden at home, and at the lake. She enjoyed their beauty and the care that they required. She loved her home and cottage and took great pleasure in decorating both. Pat was a collector of fine things. She built a rock garden, fire pit, and beautiful rock exterior of the fireplace at the cottage. She was a woman of many talents. She loved her pets, so much that they are all still at the house! She loved the companionship they provided, and the quirky things they would do. Pat loved to travel, Florida being one of her favourite destinations. She collected shells on the beach and enjoyed watching her grandchildren play in the pool and sand. Pat's biggest love was her family. She was delighted to engage with and watch her four grandchildren play. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family and the loving companions who cared for her. She enjoyed the many conversations shared, and time spent with the people she loved. She was an excellent role model, a gracious and dignified individual, and the most loving person one could encounter. She loved life and lived it to the fullest, always displaying incredible strength and courage. She has left us with many fond memories. She will be deeply missed. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). • Pat and Keith always made us feel good. They welcomed to family gatherings at the lake. They made friends with our children. They always displayed humour and gentle acceptance of the noise, confusion, activities and confusion generated by energetic young people. Pat was very kind, very thoughtful and compassionate towards us over our own trials, even at Keith's memorial service and despite her own health issues. She had strength that went way beyond that of most people. We will remember her always. In Pat and Keith's memory we will maintain a supply of "Chateau de Cardboard" and toast them for the memories they gave us.
