Mike was predeceased by his siblings Walter, Mary and Tony. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Katie; and their three sons, Jerry (Leta) and their children, Jedd and Scott (Cecilia); Michael (special friend Val); and his children Jennifer (Ryan Luckhardt), Cheryl and Jeffrey; and Ken; as well as four great-grandchildren Ayla, Marley and Zoe Luckhardt, and Sullivan Maksymyk. Mike and Katie were married for almost 65 years and together they farmed on the family farm that had been in the Maksymyk family for 117 years. He was proud to carry on that tradition and farming was his life. Even as his health was failing, he enjoyed doing what he could. He was also a very skilled carpenter. He built his first "shanda" out of logs when he was 14 years old and it is still stands today. Often on drives he would point out house after house that he had built, remodeled or worked on. As a young man Mike loved baseball and earned a reputation as one of the finest softball pitchers in the area. He was also an excellent musician and enjoyed playing fiddle with his friends at weddings and halls. He valued hard work and modeled that to his family and community Mike was involved in the community. He was treasurer of the St. Stephens Greek Orthodox Church in Pleasant Home and was proud to be part of the history there. The Komarno Club Hall had a special place in his heart and he was a member for over 40 years. He loved helping. Even in his late 80's he was happy to sell tickets at the door just to be with friends and neighbours. Mike was proud of his family and was happy to help them as he had opportunity to do so. He preferred being on the farm to travelling, but was always happy to stop what he was doing and visit when people came by. He was a quiet man, yet had a smile for everyone. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was happy to spend time with them and hear about their lives. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Gimli Hospital and Teulon Hospital for their loving care in the last months of his life. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Mackenzie Funeral Chapel in Teulon with viewing from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. and interment to follow at the Pleasant Home Cemetery.
