FLOYD RAYNER Peacefully and free from pain, Floyd passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, with family at his side. We, his family, take comfort knowing that he has been reunited with the love of his life and soul mate, Diane. On May 14, 1938, Floyd was the youngest of three children born to George and Edith (Dunlop). The family was separated for a brief time after his mother passed away in 1941. When his father remarried to Muriel (McBurney), the family came together again in Brandon. This would be where Floyd attended school and discovered his love for numbers. He was the high school treasurer and went on to take a Chartered Accountant program but dropped out after the third year. He worked at various retail co-ops and eventually joined the Department of National Revenue in February 1967. He completed his Certified Management Accounting degree in 1972, and retired in March 1998. In 1962, Floyd found himself working in Stonewall and this is where he would meet and fall in love with his best friend, Diane Alice Karasewich. They were married on May 4, 1963 and were together every day from that point on. They would travel the world, attend numerous festivals, gatherings, concerts, and volunteer at Oak Hammock Marsh together. Few people in this world will ever know a love like these two had. When Diane became ill in 1999 with Type 2 Diabetes, their bond strengthened even more when Floyd took on the role of caregiver 24/7 365 days a year until her passing on January 4, 2010. He would go on to visit her once a week, every week at her final resting place until recently when he went in to the hospital. "Only you could ever show me love like this" Our family would like to thank Dr. George and Dr. Joshua as well as the nurses and staff on 3 North at the Grace Hospital for helping to keep Floyd comfortable during his final days. As Floyd requested, a come and go tea will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue on Saturday, July 18 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Thank you to Chapel Lawn for their help with arrangements. Flowers are gratefully declined. Instead, please make a donation to a charity of your choice in Floyd's name. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Although we were neighbors we didn't visit much as Floyd was always taking care of Diane. After she passed he and I would spend some time together talking. I talked about my traveling trips and he would talk about his and Diane's trips and we together would share life in different countries that we visited. It brought excitement to our talks as it obviously recalled great memories for him. Then he would attend perogy dinners at my church and I had a chance to visit with him for maybe 20 minutes and off he went. He did keep himself busy. Floyd and I even worked at the same corporation but did not meet one another until we both attended a retirement party for a coworker we both knew approx 7 years later - that was quite a surprise to find out that not only were we neighbors but we worked at the same place and had not crossed paths. Floyd, I am glad we had the opportunity to visit together, and know each other. Floyd you will be missed and as you said to me that you wanted to come to my retirement party, when I retired, you will be there and remembered. Thank you for being a great neighbor! I truly did appreciate knowing you. Gerald and Debra Skochyles - Posted by: Gerald (Neighbour) on: Jul 18, 2015
