BRANKO VUKAS We are deeply saddened to announce that on Thursday, July 16, 2015, our beloved Deda Branko passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital at the age of 81 years. Branko Vukas was born in Bosnia but lived in Croatia for most of his life with his wife Eva, since their marriage in 1953. He spent over 40 years working in the local sugar factory power plant, rising to a position of importance, which brought him much pride. Branko was not a boastful man; he was humble and lived a virtuous life. Throughout his adult life, he was a volunteer firefighter and taught children how to sport fish. He also enjoyed travelling. He and his wife Eva moved to Canada in 1994, which he always happily claimed was the beginning of the best years of their lives. The only thing Deda loved more than fishing and his work was his family. He is survived by his loving wife Eva and their three devoted daughters, Stanka (John), Neda, and Gordana (Zdenko); six grandchildren, Marko, David, Dunja (Trevor), Natasha (Steven), Branko (Kelsey), and Zlata; and devoted niece Anna. He is also survived by his sister, Dusanka, and his nephew and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister Zorka. Branko lost both of his parents and his brother during the Second World War, becoming an orphan at a young age. His moral strength of character gave him an incredible ability to triumph over adversity and he will forever be an inspiration to those that remember him for those challenges and tragedies that he overcame during the course of his life. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends. Branko's Funeral Service was held on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue with Rev. Fr. Sinisa Milutinovic presider. Interment followed in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue. The family would like to thank the diligent and caring nurses, doctors and staff members at the Grace Hospital who took care of and gave comfort to our Deda during his last days.
