Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I met Bob (and the wonderful Mima) through the Teachef Exchange Program and in a short space of time became very close friends. They introduced me to many Canadian activities and I spent many nights at their home. Bob was a wonderful host who had a wicked sense of humour. My sons and a friend also spent time with Bob on arriving in Canada. Bob loved sharing his great country. We shared many laughs and fun times. Together with Mima, Bob travelled to Australia and stayed with us and we returned his hospitality three years ago we returned to Canada and spent more wonderful times with Bob and Mima. They were an amazing couple and Bob was quite lost without the love of his life when Mima died. We will very much miss our conversations, newsy letters and wonderful times shared with Bob. Our condolences to all who loved this wonderful man and were blessed to have him in their life. - Posted by: Gayle Fitzclarence and Greg Simmons (Friends through the Manitoba teacher exchange program) on: Jul 27, 2015

  • Mima and I met at college in 1973 and became close friends.Hugh and I were delighted when she married Bob in 1987 and since then have had many happy times together both in Scotland and in Winnipeg.Bob was such a lovely man and a great host.I am so glad that we were able to spend time together last Sep.visiting Pitlochry and attending theatre. Both Bob and Mima enriched out lives and we will always miss them. However we are certain and sure that they are now with the Lord. - Posted by: Elsie and Hugh Griffin (Friends) on: Jul 25, 2015

  • Donna & I met Bob and Mima during our teacher exchange year to Morden, Manitoba in 2006. We became good friends, partaking in a number of activities with them and other members of the exchange teachers' group in Winnipeg. Bob and Mima hosted us on several occasions, and introduced us to some of the nuances of Canadian football - quite an experience for us Aussies! We were very pleased to reciprocate some of the kindness and hospitality we had enjoyed when Bob & Mima visited Australia and stayed with us for several days. We have always been impressed by Bob's warmth, friendliness and sense of humour, as well as his willingness to help others in need. Bob was truly one of Nature's gentlemen, and a "really good bloke". Our sincere condolences to Bob's loving family. Donna & Martin Allan, Strathfieldsaye, Australia. - Posted by: Donna & Martin Allan (Friends) on: Jul 23, 2015

  • I met Bob at MTS when we worked together on Corydon Avenue in the same office. We continued our friendship up until his passing. I will miss our morning breakfasts when Bob would arrange to come to Transcona for his regular car maintenance. He would make sure to plan it early enough to get me up and still complained that I was always late. He'd comment that both he and Mima had read their paper and drank a carafe of coffee by the time I got there even though I was never more than 5 minutes past our scheduled meeting time. I will miss our many conversations and especially his insistence of my listening to his selections of Scottish music. My deepest regret is that I did not have a chance to see him this year. I'm glad knowing he is now in God's tender care and as promised in scripture a place is waiting for him in heaven. My deepest condolences to the family.
