CHRISTINE MARY STEWART
Date of Passing: Jul 13, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRISTINE MARY STEWART On a quiet summer morning, Monday, July 13, 2015, at the age of 97 years, Christine Mary Stewart passed away peacefully at Calvary Place in Winnipeg. She was born in Brandon, MB of Scottish immigrant parents George and Catherine Hutton; the youngest of her family and the last remaining. Christine was very proud of her heritage and grateful for the love of her brothers, sisters and their children. Christine graduated from the Brandon General Hospital as a RN in 1940. She married Jack Stewart in 1946. His R.C.M.P. career took them to Winnipeg, Fort William, Flin Flon, Dauphin and back to Winnipeg in 1966 at his retirement. The family home was on Keating Avenue in Silver Heights, where she lived for the 32 years after her husband's passing in 1979. Christine is survived by son Tony (Anahid) of Toronto, daughter Catherine (Robert) of Winnipeg and son Robert (Maggie) of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her primary roles were that of wife, mother, homemaker, and grandmother. To these tasks she devoted much love and all of her energy and passion. For the 69 years since her wedding day she nurtured her growing family, which included 11 grandchildren: Gregory, Stephen, Aaron, D'Arcy, Clark, Andrea, Loni, David, Matthew, Julian and Christina. She was happy to know of her grandchildren's marriages and of the arrival of her great-grandchildren. Christine and Jack attended Anglican church services in all communities where they lived, lastly at the parish of St. Stephen and St. Bede. She derived much strength and happiness from her life in the church. As well, she enjoyed with her extended and growing family, many decades of summers at the family cottage at Victoria Beach. We thank her many special neighbours from Keating Avenue and beyond, whose friendship and support for her are more appreciated than they could know. We thank her church family which was very dear to her. Lastly, we think of the many health care providers, physicians, home care workers, nurses, hospital staff, and personal care home staff, who helped her daily through the challenges of her senior years. Without the assistance of many we would not have had her loving, supportive voice at the end of our phone conversations for so many years. A small circle of her family will gather to inter her remains beside those of her husband in St. John's Cathedral Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2015. Rest in peace Christine.
