Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBARRY WAYNE LAND It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. At the age of 74, Barry passed away suddenly and peacefully in his sleep on Friday, July 24, 2015 in his home. Barry was born on November 11, 1940 in Winnipeg, MB to Earl and Dorothy (Floyd) Land. He was one of four children that Earl and Dorothy were blessed with. Barry resided in Winnipeg his entire life where he began his professional career at N M Paterson and Sons Ltd. at the age of 17, as an office boy. He would work his way up, over a forty year period, to become Merchandise Manager until his retirement in May of 1997. Barry met Donna Bowman (McLennan) on a blind date in February of 1975, which led to their marriage on October 2, 1982. This happy marriage of 32 years came with more, as in his heart he adopted her daughter Cheryl. In 1989 and 1993 Barry (Bumpa) and Donna (Meme) were blessed with their two grandsons (Matti and Jari) who quickly became the apples of their eyes. Together they enjoyed countless hockey weekends with their grandsons, golfing, bowling, dancing, vacationing in Florida, Gull Lake, and spending 18 winters in Texas. Barry had many accomplishments, not only in his professional career, but also by representing Manitoba in the Canadian Senior Golf Championships, Western Canada Five Pin Bowling Championships, and managing to achieve seven holes-in-one and one albatross in golf. Barry began his golfing days caddying at St. Charles. He would continue to become President of Charleswood Golf Club in 1977 and 1978 and would volunteer as a Rules Official with Golf Manitoba. Barry was an active member of several Winnipeg golf courses, most recently at Wildewood Golf Club. Barry is predeceased by father Earl Land, mother Dorothy Land, sister Valerie Brooks, and brother-in-law Karel Van Helden. Barry is survived by his loving wife Donna Land, daughter Cheryl (Ryan) Hoffmann, son-in-law Tomi (Sherry) Roinila, grandsons Matti (Laura) Roinila and Jari (Channon Raugutt) Roinila, step-grandsons Marcus Hoffmann and Chris Hoffmann, step-granddaughter Emily Hoffmann, great-granddaughter Everly Roinila, sisters Gail Duncan and Donna (Wayne) Wolanski, brother-in-law Gary Brooks, sister-in-law Lynn Van Helden, nieces Brenda (Garth) Fenton, Deborah (Corey) Hummeston and Karolyn (Jayson May) Van Helden, nephews David (Jen) Duncan, Rob (Debbie) Duncan, Michael (Stacy) Wolanski, Michael (Vanessa) Van Helden, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. A come and go Celebration of Barry's Life and viewing will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Time will be provided for anyone wishing to share memories and stories. Dear Donna and family - So sorry to hear this very sad news. Besides the years we spent working together at N.M. Peterson, my favourite memories will be of the many many years that Barry and Donna - AKA Santa and Mrs. Claus - delighted the kids AND adults too, with their annual visit to our family Christmas Eve gathering at my parents home. Barry, you were *the* best Santa ever! You are gone far too soon - RIP - Posted by: Jan Hetherington (Former co-worker/friend) on: Jul 28, 2015
