Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARCHIE JOSEPH TOBACCO Peacefully, on Friday, July 24, 2015 at the Portage District General Hospital, Archie Joseph Tobacco, of Portage la Prairie, passed away at the age of 94 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Rose Ann Tobacco. Wake will take place in the Rez Plex of Long Plains on Tuesday, July 28 at 5:00 p.m. A second wake will follow at Sandy Bay Complex on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. Funeral service will take place at Our Lady of Guadulupe Catholic Church in Sandy Bay on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Sandy Bay Cemetery. Archie Tobacco was born in Winnipeg, MB on April 6, 1921. His parents were Joe and Maggie Tobacco from the Long Plain First Nation. He was their only son. As a child, Archie loved to dance pow wow. He was a member of the Grass Dance Society. His first language was Ojibwe and he spoke this fluently. Archie was a Residential School Survivor and attended the Birtle Indian Residential School in Birtle, MB from 1931-1936. Archie married Rose. They had three children, Florence, Joey, and Margaret. Archie is predeceased by his wife and two children Florence (Matthew) and Joey (Maxine), and half brother Donald Daniels. After the death of his wife, his youngest daughter Margaret watched over him and she has done so for the past 35 years. In his earlier years, Archie was a champion at horse shoes and had a passion for it. He enjoyed spending his time at the Herman Prior Centre visiting friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was a humble man who enjoyed the simple life as he came from a different era in time. Archie enjoyed working outdoors and would spend countless hours working in his garage. He would still be seen outside working until 90 years of age. Archie had lived to see six generations of his descendants. He leaves to mourn his passing, his daughter Margaret Cahoon; grandchildren: Gibert (Laura) Mousseau, Debbie (Carl) Mousseau, Jeffery (Doris) Mousseau, Terry (Toni) Mousseau, Lisa (Danny) Mousseau, Junior Mousseau, the late Brian Mousseau, Rose (Max) Tobacco, Joe Tobacco, Cindy Tobacco, Nancy Tobacco, Vern Tobacco, Jody (Gary) Tobacco, and Jackie Tobacco.
