STEPHANIE KEMPA
Date of Passing: Jul 27, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEPHANIE KEMPA On July 27, 2015 after a determined effort and a strong will to keep living, Stephanie Kempa passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Grace Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents Edward and Maria Zurowski, her husband Peter in 1993, and her younger daughter Judy Jasson in 2012. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Kempa and husband Rick McKenzie, son-in-law Perry Jasson, only sister Tillie Royal and her family. She is also survived by members of her husband's family: brother Joe (Ruth), sister Ruth DesBrisay, sister Stella (Ron Olinkin), sisters-in-law Naida, Kathleen, Bella, Evelyn, Marie and many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by Peter's brothers Bill, John, Mike (Catherine), Paul, Steve, Alex, his sister Mary Kowal (Steve) and brother-in-law Norman DesBrisay. Stephanie was born in 1923 in Zabojki, Poland. The family came to Canada and farmed near Tadmore, Saskatchewan. After finishing school, she moved to Winnipeg where she worked at The Fort Garry Hotel and later, after her marriage to Peter, she worked at Eatons and the St. Regis Hotel. Peter and Steffie raised their two daughters first in their home on Simcoe Street and later on Rouge Road in Westwood. Despite many surgeries resulting in mobility problems, numerous infections, and surviving breast cancer, she never complained. "Who would want to listen?" she would often say. In her quiet, determined way she continued to cook, bake, pickle, garden, knit, and crochet. She was well known for her delicious apple pie made, of course, from apples picked from the trees in her backyard. In 2011 Steffie moved to Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence No. 1 and had to adjust to being less active. She attended the Prime program at Deer Lodge Hospital until two days before her final stay in the hospital. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, August 10 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations to Ovarian Cancer Canada (ovariancanada.org) or 1-877 413-7970 Ext. 225 to help find a cure for the disease that took the life of her daughter Judy would be greatly appreciated.
