CHARLES DARAZSI Charles passed away peacefully at home, as he wished, on July 31 at the age of 76. He was loved by his wife Marlene, and sons Chris (Joanne and Veronica) and Michael (Susan, Alex, and Zachary). Charles Josef Darazsi was born in Budapest, Hungary on May 15, 1939. He left the country and his family for Canada in 1957 with a brief stay in England. He travelled with several friends from the Okanagan in British Columbia to Ontario's glass and steel mills. He was very bright and made friends easily. Charles eventually arrived in Winnipeg where he would live for the next 50 years. There he met his future wife Marlene, and they were married in 1966. There their sons were born, Chris in 1974 and Michael in 1978. These boys would become the pride and joy of his life. Michael playing piano at the Centennial Concert Hall and Chris being a member of the Ceremonial Guard in Ottawa for three years were the highlights. He enjoyed watching them play soccer and later refereeing the game. Many evenings were spent at various pools, enabling them to become exemplary swimmers. No effort was too great for his sons. Among his favourite pastimes was fishing with his best friend Terry Melnyk. Those were happy days with many adventures and Charles greatly missed Terry after his passing. He was a good friend. Charles worked many jobs during his lifetime such as TV and appliance repair, stuccoing and roofing. He even did a lot of the work building his new home in East St. Paul in 1981. In 1983 Charles was diagnosed with colon cancer. After several surgeries he returned to work for CP Rail - Signals Department. Charles stayed with CP Rail until he retired in 1997. He was then free to devote his time to his family and his yard. Before becoming too ill, Charles and Marlene travelled to Hawaii (their favourite place) and to the Dominican Republic, Florida and Texas (he loved the warm weather). After 2009 with kidney failure, he went on dialysis. The following year, he was doing it at home, operating the machine all by himself. He was an excellent patient, and followed the instructions of his doctors and nurses totally. Despite continuous pain, he rarely complained. Charles would wish to thank Dr. S. Armstrong, who started with him on this journey, along with Dr. P Komenda, Dr. C. Regatto, Dr. S. Dunsmore, Dr. A. J. Hingawala, Dr. C. Fotti and nurse Verna Prigroski for their kindness to him. How he loved you all! We would be remiss in not mentioning the love and support of our neighbours Shaun and Melissa and their darling daughter Isabella Ciano along with their dog Schaefer who became like family to Charles and brought him much joy. Also, his brother in law Robert and his wife Rose who gave much heartfelt love, support and advice to Charles. We couldn't have managed without you. To honour Charles donations to the Manitoba Kidney Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society can be made. The Memorial Service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. 1 E. at Navin Road on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. A private Interment will follow at a later date. GREEN ACRES Funeral Home and Cemetery Hwy #1 E at Navin Road, Winnipeg, MB (204) 222-3241 Condolences may be sent to www.greenacresfuneralhome.com

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • We miss Charles. He was a unique man and our frequent garage and garden sessions were something we always looked forward to. We former neighbours still reminisce about the good old days when that showcase yard was something to behold. His immaculate garage was magical. Not only did it house a classic car that looked like new, but If someone needed something out of the norm he would smile, nod and it would magically appear. He was very generous as well as interesting. His ordeal is over, our thoughts are with Marlene, Chris and Michael - Posted by: Larry and Susan Larke (Former neighbours) on: Aug 11, 2015

  • Chance made us neighbours, time made us friends and love made us family. We will miss you forever Charles! We love you.... We we were so lucky to have known and loved you. Marlene we love you and we are all so glad to have you in our lives. Melissa, Shaun, Isabella and of course Schaeffer - Posted by: Melissa (Family) on: Aug 08, 2015

  • Sorry to hear of your loss. Hoping that Charles and Terry are fishing up a storm in the place we respectfully call heaven. It has been a long time and they will have a lot of catching up to do. Charlie's and Terry's relationship was unique to say the least, but the love that Terry had for his friend was one I know that was very important to him. He is gone but will never be forgotten by family and friends and especially his wife Marlene. He was always there there to lend a helping hand and to share a quick smile. Marlene "Love for ever, forget him never", may he rest in peace. Love Liz - Posted by: Elizabeth (Liz) Melnyk (Friend) on: Aug 06, 2015
