GLENN EDWARD EMMERSON Glenn Emmerson passed away peacefully on August 1, 2015 surrounded by the music of Nat King Cole with his daughters by his side. Left to treasure his memory are: his daughters Karen (Bill), Colleen, Pat (Andy), his much loved granddaughters Lillian, Emily and Sarah, his extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Angela in 2011 and son-in-law Martin Speight in 2014. Glenn was born in Abernethy, SK in 1934 and was raised on a farm in Melfort, SK. Shortly after high school, he joined the R.C.A.F. and graduated from Air Navigation School in 1954. His service career spanned 27 years where he attained the rank of Captain. He was very proud to have flown with the 410 Tactical Fighter Operational Training Squadron ("Cougars"), the 414 Electronic Warfare Squadron and the 428 Ghost Squadron. While stationed at Cold Lake, AB, he met and married Angela Wojnarski in 1960 and they celebrated almost 51 years of marriage before her passing. Military life meant frequent moves for the family: from Senneterre, Chicoutimi, and St Bruno, PQ to Ottawa and North Bay, ON before settling in Stonewall, MB where he worked for Air Command in Winnipeg until his retirement. He was a man of few words, but the twinkle in his eye and mischievous grin spoke volumes. He had a quick wit, a warped sense of humour and, from an early age, was easily recognizable by his signature crew cut. He was a loyal Legion member, an avid curler and a lifelong Rough Riders fan. Glenn loved planting his garden, crosswords, collecting coins/pins and plates, home cooking, beer, afternoon naps, dried mangoes shared with his granddaughters, golfing with his sons-in-law and fall family trips to Clear Lake. He was a math whiz and speed reader, and had a natural gift and love for music. Glenn could navigate even without maps and always seemed to end up where he wanted to be. Glenn was a generous and loyal friend who gave willingly of himself but never wanted any accolades. He loved his family and was especially proud of his granddaughters. Special family memories include board games, Sunday brunch cooked by Dad, adventure-filled camping road trips every summer growing up and a vacation in 2012 to the Maritimes before Dad's health began to fail. Special thanks to the staff of Woodland Courts Assisted Living in Selkirk and Selkirk General Hospital, and to his sister Lenore and brother Lorne for their compassion during his time of need. We will miss you Dad, though we are comforted knowing you are reunited with Mom. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the MacKenzie Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Stonewall, Manitoba, August 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
