KATHLEEN FRASER (nee TERRY) Peacefully, with her friends Joan Tychonick and Lynda Shapiro by her side, Kathie passed away on Monday, August 11, 2015, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg at 85 years of age. Kathie was born on December 1, 1929, in Edmonton, AB and spent her early years on a homestead in northern Alberta living in a log cabin. After moving to Winnipeg as a young woman, Kathie pursued several different occupations, the most enjoyable being her time as a Dance Instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studio. Kathie later followed her passion for writing and wrote three children's safety books while proofreading for Gateway Publishing. She was predeceased by her mother Violet, father Albert, former husband Lylle Fraser and her favorite cat OJ. She was quick witted, a great dancer, a former member of the Transcona Jaycettes and the fastest typist most of us ever knew. She liked to travel to Europe, both on her own and in her capacity with the Jaycettes. A Celebration of LIfe will be held on Monday, August 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, Hwy. 12 East at Navin Rd. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My first memory of meeting Mrs.Fraser was visiting her home with my parents back in the '70's. She and Mr.Fraser set up big chairs in the basement for us kids to sleep on for the night. It was like a huge comfy fort and we had a blast. In the morning, I remember her heading out the back door with a bag of seeds to feed all the birds chirping in anticipation of her arrival. When I was older, she sent me a book about traditional British Master Painters. I fell in love then with John Constable and Mrs. Frasers letters. Her voice in writing was incredibly distinct and perfectly dry. I always had a laugh. I was struck, too, by her incredible empathy and understanding of my situation. Her encouragement and her voice will always rest within me. Thank you Mrs. Fraser. How hard it must've been to so love writing and art, and not have the eyes to see it. But I never heard you complain. May you rest gently in God's love I hope we meet again Gina - Posted by: Gina Parker Whitlow (Friend) on: Aug 16, 2015

  • Kathie was a beautiful lady everyone would have loved to have as a friend - true, devoted, a good listener, a good debated and a valued listener. She had a sharp English wit the would have you laughing. She loved animals, "Jeopardy" and a good English or New York crossword puzzle. She enjoyed the Transcona Jaycettes and we had many happy times together working on projects and attending social functions and conventions. We moved to Calgary 40 years ago but looked forward to her "epistles" on just about any subject. We will dearly miss our friend and her phone calls and letters. Rest in peace, dear Kathie, God Bless Helen and Jim Parker - Posted by: Helen and Jim Parker (long term friends) on: Aug 16, 2015
