Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLEN SMITH On August 16, 2015, our father, Glen passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Glen is survived by his three children, Paul (Sheryl), Carla and Dan (Nicole), his sister Arlie MacAuley (Hugh), his grandchildren, Shannon, Brett, Lindsay, Stephanie, Kristine, and nephews, nieces and cousins. Glen was predeceased by his parents Gladys and Gordon, his brother Doug, and many other close family and friends whose company he always appreciated. Glen was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on August 27, 1928. He was in every way a prairie boy. He attended high school at Nutana Collegiate until his graduation in 1946. He met Audrey Ann Donnelly in Calgary, Alberta and married her in 1955. As Glen's career grew they relocated throughout western Canada. With each successive promotion, he spoke with pride of his achievements in sales and management at Marshall Wells, The Bay, Building Products of Canada, and Domtar Construction Materials. Glen loved life. He enjoyed time outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, boating, and cabin life. He played old timer's hockey, cross country skiing, curling and had an ongoing love/hate relationship with golf. He was particularly proud of achieving his life guard certificate at the age of 40 years. He first tried water skiing at 55 years old. He loved travelling, music and working with his hands. Dad loved analyzing a problem and applying a solution, he was a true Mr. Fix it. Glen's private enjoyments included books, and watching his favourite teams on the tube. Special moments were times spent in the company of friends, kids, Murphy and Tigger. Good food was always welcome. Dad loved being a father. His top four life lessons included; 1) Whatever you do, do your very best. 2) Pay your bills. 3) Buy the best you can afford. 4) Even when times are tough, stick to your commitments. In 2007, Glen reconnected with his Irish roots and a trip to the Emerald Isle. In honour of my father's request, we invite friends and family to a "wee drop" immediately following his funeral service at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 4000 Portage Avenue. It was infrequent, but when I bumped in to Mr. Smith he was always so positive and encouraging. I remember stopping by the house on Southlake to meet up with Dan before we walked to school [John Taylor Collegiate]. On the off chance that Mr. Smith was leaving for work at the same time I was so impressed with his zest for life. Unfortunately, I am out of town on a business trip. Otherwise, I would've have been at the funeral. Please accept my sincerest condolences. - Posted by: Norm Gould (A friend of Glen's son, Dan [back in 1984]) on: Aug 24, 2015
