WILLIAM CAP August 5, 1923 - August 17, 2015 On August 17, 2015, after a brief illness in Concordia Hospital, Dad joined Mom for an everlasting casino trip. Dad was born and raised in Winnipeg, living mostly in Elmwood and East Kildonan. He married Elizabeth on October 13, 1951 and they were together for 57 years until her passing on December 16, 2008. Dad attended school in Elmwood and then St. John's High School where he graduated. He made a particular point of reminding us that going to St. John's from Elmwood required a daily walk there and back no matter what the weather. Dad loved all sports and participated in most of them at one time or another. Earlier in his life, Dad was an avid curler, bowler and golfer. He bowled in many leagues at Chateau Lanes and won many trophies. He was a member of Transcona Golf Club for almost 20 years after retiring and regularly shot games in the 70s, even achieving a hole-in-one. Dad started working with the Federal Government, Customs and Excise Division in September, 1940 at the age of 17. He spent four and one half years in the Canadian Army but did not go overseas due to medical reasons. After being discharged, Dad returned to work with Canada Customs progressing through most classifications in Winnipeg and finally achieving the position of Dominion Customs Appraiser where he remained until retirement. He was extremely proud of his service with the Federal Government. He and Mom loved to travel by car, air, bus and train. They regularly made trips to Las Vegas and to the casinos in the northern U.S. He made a couple of trips on his own until arthritis slowed him down. Dad was predeceased at an early age by both parents and later on by his brother Michael, and wife Elizabeth. He is survived by his daughter Betty and son-in-law Brian, cousin Jenny, and nephew Ron, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Dad was very independent. Until he went into Concordia Hospital, he would still drive his car to go grocery shopping and cook his own meals if he wanted. We would like to express our thanks to Gary and Mandy Penzick for all of their help when Dad lived on Helmsdale. We would also like to express thanks to the staff at Concordia Village, the home care persons and the staff at N1S in Concordia Hospital who all helped to make Dad's independent life comfortable. It was Dad's request that no funeral service be held. A private interment will be held at a later date. Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111
