EMILY AGNES LINDAL (nee MARTIN) With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Emily Agnes Lindal at Arborg and District Health Centre with her children at her side. Emily leaves to mourn her children Marilyn (Curtis), Allan (Shaun) and Lori (Murray); her grandchildren Ryan (Tracy), Niki (Kole), Joshua, Amanda (Michael), Lauren (Andrew), Arik (Ashley), Christopher (Dawn), Courtney (Harlo), Chelsea (Ryan), Carlea (Waylon); and her great-grandchildren Alaina, Wyatt, Connor, Matthew, Hayden, Olivia and Weston. She also leaves her siblings Alma (Raymond), Robert (Ellen), Eleanor (Al), Lorraine, Lorna (Lorne) plus numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Siggi; her parents Alfred and Beatrice Martin; parents-in-law Jacob and Thorunn Lindal; as well as an infant sister and many extended family members. Emily was born on February 24, 1929 at Hnausa, MB. She was the oldest child and grew up on a family farm in Vidir. As a young girl she went to Portage la Prairie to complete her high school education. She taught as a permit teacher at the Sylvan School. She then attended Normal School to complete her teacher training. It was in Sylvan where she met our Dad and they were married on July 5, 1952. She taught at Sylvan and Vestri Schools until she decided that she wanted to raise her family and help Dad on the farm. Mom was a woman of many talents. She loved creating beautiful wedding and birthday cakes. She could be found in her sewing room or in her recliner knitting. We have many treasured creations such as Icelandic sweaters, mitts, quilts, and afghans. She took pride in her Icelandic heritage and was a valued member of the Vidir Ladies Aid for many years. Her caring personality and love of company was evident, and being invited for coffee and cookies was a guarantee. In the summer she spent many hours tending to her flowers and garden. Her greatest treasures were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great interest in their lives and attended their special events when she was able. Her grandchildren will honour her by acting as her pallbearers. When the Parkinson disease became worse she moved to Arborg Assisted Living where she could spend more time with her siblings and their families. She also re-kindled old friendships and acquired new friends. Thank you to those special people at Assisted Living, her home-care workers, and all family and friends who kept her safe, and supported her independence. We would like to thank Dr. Hobson (her neurologist), Dr. Ishak and the other doctors and staff at Arborg Hospital who showed her care and respect in her last few months. Prayer service will be held Wednesday, August 26, 7:30 p.m., at MacKenzie Funeral Home in Arborg. Burial service will take place at the Sylvan Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 27. Memorial service will follow at the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church in Arborg at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Gary Schenk officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sylvan Cemetery Fund, Box 977, Arborg, MB, R0C 0A0. Goda Nott, Amma. MacKenzie Funeral Home Arborg 204-467-2525 info@mackenziefh.com
