INGVAR KRISTJANSON It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Ingvar Kristjanson on August 23, 2015 at the age of eighty-three. Ingvar was born in Vidir, MB on July 9, 1932. He grew up on the family farm with his grandparents, parents, brothers and sisters. He attended Vidir School, which was on their home farm. He left school at the age of fourteen when he was needed full-time on the farm. He was all about hard work and solid routines and was meticulous in everything he did. Ingvar married Josephine Gislason on August 6, 1960 and together they raised three children. Dad was very devoted to Mom and respected her need to be out and on the go. She recognized that he liked to keep "the home fires burning" and so they spent 55 years together; supporting each other through each joy and challenge. Dad worked with his brothers in farming and a gravel/concrete business. His focus was the farm, and he especially loved working with animals. His favourite moments were time spent with his family. He loved holding babies, playing cards and games outside; and of course sports (especially curling and golfing). He was always attached to his pets, and in later years, Steen's and Brett's too. Dad lived all his life on the farm, until the fall of 2011 when he and Mom moved to the Waterfront Centre in Gimli to be closer to family. It was a difficult move, as he missed the rural life, but he did grow comfortable in his new home and the community and church were very welcoming. Cutting grass at the Sigurdson farm helped take the sting out of lost outside chores. He was especially happy to get out of the condo to visit his kids we all had yards to enjoy! He will be dearly missed by his wife Josephine, their children and families: Ingrid (Neil) Stevenson; Ardith (Barrie) Sigurdson, Steen and Brett (Alexandra and Liam); Darren (Kathy) Kristjanson, Erik and Hailee. Survived by his brothers Magnus, Kristjan and Rowland (Kristin); and Josephine's brothers David (Judith), Wayne (Sandra) and Lorne (Shirley). Also many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Steen and Brett Sigurdson, Erik Kristjanson; nephews Raymond Palsson, Wesley Gislason; and good friend Robin Sparkes. Honourary pallbearers are niece Darlene Barylski and nephew Douglas Rogers. A service in his memory is planned for Saturday, August 29, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, 301 River Road, Arborg, Manitoba, following a private family burial at Vidir Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Box 160 Arborg, MB R0C 1B0 or Gimli Lutheran Church, Box 118, Gimli, MB, R0C 1B0.
