MARY JANE DOROTHY (MURRAY) LANGTVED 1917 - 2015 We are all very saddened by the passing of Mary Jane Dorothy (Murray) Langtved on August 25, 2015 at the age of 97. Dorothy was born on November 5, 1917 in Winnipeg and in 1919 moved with her parents Guy and Mary Ellen (Goodfellow) Murray to the Macross district West of Eriksdale in the Interlake region of Manitoba, where they had chosen to farmstead. Her childhood years included attending the one room rural Macross school for grades 1-8 and then Eriksdale School for grades 9-11. She attended the Jon Bjarnason Academy in Winnipeg to achieve her Grade 12, followed by teacher training at Normal School, also in Winnipeg. Returning to the area West of Eriksdale she taught in one room schools: 3 years in Macross, 1 year in each of Scotch Bay and Hartfield. Dorothy married Henry Langtved of Eriksdale on August 9, 1941. During the war years they both worked in Pearce, Alberta as airplane mechanics. After the war they maintained a large home on Broadway Avenue where they rented rooms to girls who came to Winnipeg to work. Dorothy's own final employment years were spent in Eaton's Budget Office where she became very proficient and made many friends. She was a very dedicated and supportive caregiver who looked after her sister-in-law, Agnes, mother-in-law Mrs. Langtved and also her husband Henry through many years of illnesses. Also their home in Winnipeg was the home-away-from-home for her nieces and nephews. Dorothy and Henry enjoyed their many travels but their favorite time was spent at their hand-built cottage on Big Whiteshell Lake. She spent summers there for a number of years after Henry's passing on May 27, 1977. She spent her final years enjoying the care at Vista Park Lodge in St. Vital. She was predeceased by her parents; parents-in-law; husband Henry; her younger sister and spouse Vera and Gudni Backman; brothers Ian in early childhood, George in infancy, older brother Guy; her sister-in-law and spouse Agnes and Peter Whithall; brother-in-law and spouse Alf and Gladys Mills. Dorothy is survived by her younger brother Albert Murray (friend Harriet); nieces and nephews Charles Backman, Dorothy Hunter, Winston Backman (Diane), Earl Backman (Candace), Clayton Mills (Shirley), and their families of great-nieces and nephews. A private graveside interment service will take place next to her beloved husband Henry who preceded her to Glen Eden Memorial Gardens in North Winnipeg.
