MILTON (EARL) NICHOL December 29, 1927 - August 27, 2015 It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our Dad, Earl Nichol, of Stonewall, MB, on Thursday, August 27, 2015 with his family by his side. Earl is survived by his children, Larry (Val), Blaine (Leona), Tanis (Ken), Maureen (Donnie), Karen (Anthony), Craig (Laurie-Ann); grandchildren, Scott (Cali-Ann), Brandon (Tara), Brent (Kendra), Matthew (Jen), Brian, Neil, Kyle, Blair, David (Rachele), Cortney (Shane), Ashley (Blake), Sean (Jocelyn), Sidnee and Riley; great-grandchildren, Trey, Marissa, Coralyn, Taylor, Bria, Caden, Dane, Erin, Isabella and Fiona; sister Bertha Norberg and brother Cliff. Predeceased by his wife, Helga, parents Milton and Eva, brothers George and Ken, granddaughter Lisa, great-grandchildren Anna and Nicholas. Dad was born and raised near Warren and lived there until his move to Lions Manor in Stonewall in 2012. He married Helga Johnson from Lundar in 1952 and together they raised a family of six. He drove fuel trucks for many years, then managed the Gulf fuel station in Stonewall. He worked for a number of years at Standard Aero and later Aero Recip from which he retired in 1992. Sports were always a passion for Dad, including baseball in his younger years, curling well into his eighties and golfing several times a week until this past July. Dad was an avid reader and could finish off a couple of books a week and was always interested in geography with an atlas handy beside his chair. Dad had an amazing memory and kept his brain sharp by doing crosswords and puzzles in the paper. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Graham and the staff of Stonewall Hospital, Home Care and Palliative Care for their care and compassion. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Home, 433 Main St., Stonewall, MB. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Have known Earl for many years. Always friendly and had a hello for everyone he met. Barry especially remembers the days when he curled with Earl. Learning the game form him and having a good time. Thinking of you all and send you our condolences. - Posted by: Barry and Judy Baldwin (Friend) on: Sep 02, 2015

  • I have good memories of the curling bonspiels in the Interlake where we often came up short against the Nichol brothers. Never knew which one was Earl or George. Good competitors who gave a lot to the game of curling and comradeship. Enjoyed Earl's friendliness when he came to the Stonewall Curling Rink for lunch and to watch the Senior curling after he hung up his broom and boots. - Posted by: Ray & Faye Mason (friend) on: Sep 01, 2015

  • I was very saddened to hear of Earl's illness and his recent passing. I will always remember our many golf games played along with our regular group of guys at South Interlake. I remember most, his competitive spirit and his quick pace of play that were trademarks of his. You could sure tell when a putt dropped in for birdie or par, a hearty fist pump was sure to follow. I was happy to be there when he shot his age, a proud accomplishment. I had the opportunity to talk with him, after I had heard of his illness, and was impressed with his matter of fact way of dealing with it, and the courage he showed in facing it the way he did. We reminisced about our past games and shared a laugh when he told me he wasn't even having a beer at the Legion, anymore; which convinced me that he really was sick. I have had the privilege of having friendships with many members of the Nichol Family, and my heartfelt sympathy goes out to them all. My thoughts are with you. Sincerely, Kim Sharpe Qualicum Beach, B.C. - Posted by: Kim Sharpe (Golf Buddy) on: Aug 31, 2015
