Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMONA LUCILLE LAROCQUE (HOY) (nee GIEB) July 11, 1937 - September 2, 2015 Peacefully on September 2, 2015, Mona passed away at age 78 years with family by her side. She is lovingly remembered by her children Conrad (Lisa), Murray (Shannon), and Gerald; grandchildren Alexa, Mackenzie, Alyssa, and Jaida; brothers Lorne (Dorothy) Gieb and Gilbert (Diane) Gieb; sisters Leila (Tony) Fitzpatrick, Eunice Hall, Joyce (Garry) Ott, Marion Paseznak, Agnes (Neil) Kerslake, and Gladys (Lawrence) Larocque; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband James Hoy, parents Rudolph and Irma Gieb, and brother-in-law Bob Paseznak. Mona was born on July 11, 1937 at Spalding, SK and was the eldest of nine children. She left home at age 14 years to work as hired help on a farm, and sent money home to help the family. She came to Winnipeg at age 17 years, and worked as a Nurse's Aide, Lab Assistant and Operating Room technician. She met and married James Hoy in 1964. They had three children, Conrad, Murray, and Gerald, whom she loved dearly. She graduated in 1974 as a Registered Nurse, and worked many years at the Respiratory Hospital and private duty nursing. She retired from the Respiratory Hospital in 2003. A big part of Mona's life in latter years was her faith. She enjoyed travelling to conventions and visiting family and friends. She loved going out for coffee with her friends and planning her next adventure. Family was very important to Mona, especially her grandchildren, whom she was deeply proud of. She struggled with her health these last few years. She greatly appreciated her last visits with her siblings and her sons' devoted care of her in her final days. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Boulevard. So very sorry to hear that Mona had passed. She was a very good friend to my mom Linda. My fondest memory is visiting her in Headingly and swimming in her pool. Also had so much fun playing cards with the boys at her place on Dominion. Lost track of her the last few years but was pleasantly surprised that she was able to come to my mom's funeral in Jan 2014.
