OLGA (OLLIE) CARLSTROM June 26, 1935 September 5, 2015 It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our Mom, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barb, Leslie, Corinne and Patti (Dan); her grandchildren, Adam, Colin (Rebecca), Masataka, Jordan, Rachel and Matthew; great-granddaughter Hannah; sister Mary; and brother Orest. Mom was predeceased by her parents, former husband John and brothers, Billy and Johnny. Mom started her career with the Associated Hospitals of Manitoba as an Executive Secretary, where she met our Dad. After they were married, Mom's career became the ultimate homemaker. Her life centered around her four daughters, making our home truly a special place. When she wasn't cooking or baking, she could be found sewing, knitting, crocheting and working on any other craft you could imagine. She was an avid gardener, and also enjoyed watching football and hockey. Christmas was her most favourite time of the year and she absolutely went above and beyond to make the holidays very special for our family. Christmas Eve was her time to enjoy serving her endless homemade appetizers and baking. Family and friends would gather at Mom's to take part in the laughter and traditions she created. In addition to raising her family, Mom worked various part-time jobs, with her last job being at the Pizza Hut for 13 years. Just prior to retirement, Mom suffered a stroke in 2000. She overcame many obstacles and learned to walk and talk again. She was able to live at her home until the last couple of years, then moved to Kiwanis Courts and lived as independently as she could. Although she had many health challenges over the last 15 years, she managed them with much strength and determination. During our Mom's recent stay at the Grace Hospital, we would like to thank all the staff involved in her care and to those who advocated to find the cause of her complex illness, especially Dr. Hamedani, Dr. Chisick and Dr. Wiatrowski. Words cannot express how much we appreciate their care, compassion and determination, giving Mom the potential to overcome her ailment. In times of despair, they gave us hope. Despite ongoing health concerns, Mom never complained once and was a true fighter until the end. She gave us the "thumbs up" for the last opportunity to overcome her battle. Respecting Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave. A private family interment will be held prior to the service. Mom, Your life was a blessing, Your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words, And missed beyond measure. We Love You NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
