I met Dave while working at St. James Costco in the last year. Dave was what can only be described as a gentle soul. He was curtious and friendly to all who passed through the doors. We found we had a common bond in a member of his family in Kenora and it was a joy to fo d we knew many of the same people from that area. It was very saddening to learn of his passing. You will be missed big guy. - Posted by: Gordon Lysen (Friend) on: Sep 15, 2015

Farewell Dave... Till we meet again. Dave was a true friend. Dave was also a dedicated stamp collector. This was our bond. He enjoyed the history and the life stories that stamps provide. He especially liked collecting items from the World War eras and could tell many detailed stories taken from the pages of history. Dave also enjoyed and had studied geology. His time spent growing up in the Kenora area provided him with many examples of stones and rocks that also tell a story. His cats were his constant companions. He spoke of Cec with those he trusted most. You will be missed Dave. Till we meet again. - Posted by: Tess and Roger Fontaine (Friends and fellow stamp collector.) on: Sep 15, 2015

I met Dave at Costco, but used to see him in St. James, always enjoyed talking to him. Sometimes in life you encounter people that you like as soon as you meet them. Dave was one of those people. - Posted by: Ian Robertson (friend) on: Sep 15, 2015

I've known Dave for over 40 years, we were neighbours and later worked together at Consumers and at our convenience store. We maintained our friendship. We enjoyed celebrating our birthdays in April by going out for French onion soup at Pizza Place. He continued to exchange Christmas presents with our family right up to last Christmas. He was telling David at their annual Christmas dinner at Salisbury House about his retirement plans, including a trip to Pearl Harbor, among many other things. "Dave" was always kind and complementary, always willing to listen, loved to laugh and lots to say. He was very intelligent and interesting to talk with. Dave was taken too soon and will surely be missed by our family. - Posted by: Kelly,David, Brittany, and Alix Bauer, (Friend and co- worker) on: Sep 14, 2015

I was shocked when I heard and very sad. It was so well said. Dave was gentle and honest and funny and liked to share stories with me and advice when I first started out at Consumers Distributing. We both worked cash and slung boxes on the distributing line and shared our stories about the returns counter, and laughed at my comedy of luck at the tills! I got to share his stories about his cats and that he used to be a manager at Consumers and that he was a reservist Med A. and through that he became Friends with my Husband who also was in the reserves. And later became reaquainted as they both work at Costco and are part of the Costco Family. Dave and I kept in touch after Consumers over the years through Christmas Cards, and never missed a picture of his cats or stories of the different places he lived I followed the addresses. We will miss him very much. Where ever you are my friend may you be surrounded by love and your fur babies and family. Christmas will be sad and missing your yearly card and stories of your year. Much Love and Sympathy to friends, coworkers and Family. Deepest Sympathies. Super Dave was a friend and comrade. I would see him on occasion at Minto. Later I would see him when he worked at Consumers Distributors. And then, there was Super Dave working at Costco. I always stopped to talk to Super Dave on the way in and on the way out of Costco. I will forever see him in my minds' eye at Costco. Dave's father was a WW2 Little Black Devil and he was very proud of his dad's service to Canada. We would share stories about the Medics we knew at Minto. Dave was proud of his service to Canada. Dave did a bit of collecting and would always be inviting me to go to the auction Jamie. Come on Mike, coffee and donuts. It was tough to say no to Dave but I feared eating Jamie's business out of house and home, mmmm donuts. Dave and I shared funny stories, stories about our pets etc. Dave was also looking forward to his retirement just a few short years away. I told Dave about my near death experience in the 90's, the tunnel, the light at the end of the tunnel and the incredible feeling of peace. That I wanted to carry on to the other side, here I come. But, I stopped and talked to the figure to my right in the great light and asked the question "What is the meaning of Life?" The figure responded "Go back". The next thing I knew I was back amongst my coworkers in a world of pain. A fractured skull and drowning in my blood on a backboard. When we talked of this experience, I advised Dave not to stop and talk to the figure and just go for the light. I told Dave I was very lucky (as a former Little Black Devil) that the figure did not tell me I was overdressed for where I was going. When I heard of Dave's passing, I stopped and said a prayer for my friend and comrade to help him on his way in the next adventure. As with many of my Comrades who have passed over the years, I am saddened by their departure but I take solace in the fact I had the pleasure of sharing their comradeship during the years we were friends. Good bye for now my gentle friend and I hope to share stories and laughs with you in the future. - Posted by: Mike Nickerson (Friend) on: Sep 13, 2015

I am in total shock of Dave's passing. He was a loyal daily customer of mine at Shoppers, for his newspaper, a kind, courteous, soft spoken gentleman. My sincere sympathy to his family. - Posted by: Judy (customer) on: Sep 12, 2015

Dave IS one of the most altruistic, gentle, kind, and sincere of all people I have worked with, and a dear friend that I will never forget! Dave was true, to live a simple and pure life, keeping short accounts with people, not holding grudges, rather encouraging people everywhere he was! Dave was gentle!! In a day where it seems that men must hide behind a veneer of ruggedness (not letting people into the deeper feelings of the heart) those deep thoughts and sensitivity buried within our hearts... Dave Did Not Fit Into This Mold!! Dave cared for people, pets, even wild animals. Dave let people know that he cared about them, and was always so thankful, everywhere he went, thanking people for the smallest of joys! Dave was gentle beyond the image so many saw on the outside!! Dave was kind... he would go out of his way to buy and bring treats to share with fellow employees... he would do without, so that he could share with another person! Dave also pleaded to bring home the apple cores and food scraps people were throwing out for the rabbits, bunnies, and other animals where he lived. Dave was Sincere. Dave will always remain a man of integrity in my memories! Dave was a man, who did not have cracks that needed wax to fill them in. Dave was Dave, and when you knew him, you were blessed by him. As your spirit rests now my friend, I pray for you the Eternal Peace and Shalom that you so deserve. May you be carried "On the Wings of an Eagle, and May You Rise" to Your Resting Place, with your Family, your Pets, and in the Presence of Your Heavenly Father. May I one day see you again, in joy and celebration, on the other side! Forever Your Friend, Dan - Posted by: Dan Riedner (Friend, Fellow Employee~ part of the Costco Family!) on: Sep 12, 2015
