She was predeceased by her husband, Austin, and her parents, Hope and Dorothy Christie. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, children Sharon (Bruce), Gerry (Heather) and Rick (Sharon), and five grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Allan (Wilma), and sisters June and Gail. Yvonne was born in Winnipeg on May 26, 1924. She met and fell in love with Austin at the Winnipeg Roller Rink, a favourite haunt, and they were married on August 3, 1945. Yvonne and Austin raised their family in Transcona, and spent their summers at the cottage they built together at Hillside Beach. In the early years of their marriage, Yvonne worked as a sales clerk at Eatons. She later studied and completed a diploma in Sewing, Dressmaking, Pattern Design, and Ladies Tailoring. Yvonne opened her own drapery business in the 1960s, which she operated until retiring. After retirement, Yvonne pursued painting and spent many enjoyable hours creating beautiful art. We are so grateful to the staff at Lion's Manor for the loving care that was given to Yvonne in the last seven years of her life. We are especially grateful to Lydia and the other recreation staff and volunteers for making sure Yvonne got to all the musical programming, which she enjoyed so much. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lion's Personal Care Centre, 320 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6. I wish express my deepest sympathy & condolences to your family at the passing of Auntie Yvonne. I have some very fond memories of Auntie Yvonne from Hillside Beach at your parent's cottage on the hill (going berry picking and 1 particular incident involving a bear at the cottage Auntie Yvonne sat down & very patiently tried to calm a very frightened.. me, in telling me everything was ok and bear couldn't get in the cottage). Plus the many Christie Family Reunions that her generation had put together to keep us cousins connected while growing up and into adulthood. It's times like these when the family connection is most heart felt with love and support for each other. Hugs to you and your family as you travel through this very difficult journey of loss.
