Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTON (TONY) K. FAST It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather on Monday, September 7, 2015, at the age of 93, at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB. Dad was born to John D. and Maria Fast in Hueboden (now known as New Bothwell) on April 27, 1922 and was baptized in Kleefeld as a teenager. Dad and Mom shared a birthday and later Del was born on that same day; some years later a great-granddaughter (Brynae) shared their birthday as well. When Dad was 15 he met our beautiful mom, Helen Dueck of Rosenort. They were married on June 14, 1942 and their marriage was blessed with nine children. Dad and Mom's first home was in Hueboden. They moved to Mexico for a few years and then to Riverside, MB in 1953. This is where they worked and raised their family. After the Flood of the Century, which forced them to demolish their home filled with countless memories, Mom and Dad moved to Mitchell in 1997. After Mom's passing, Dad was very lonely and the house seemed too empty; Dad moved to his condo in Steinbach in 2001 and resided there until his death. Dad worked as a mechanic in his garage, Riverside Service, for many years. A highlight for him was when he built the new shop after the 1979 flood. It was a great joy for him to be part of the Tractor Club and he spent countless hours fixing and restoring his antique tractors for the many parades he participated in. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Eleanor (Ben) Thiessen, Agnes (Bernie) Martens, John (Yolanda) Fast, Mary (Henry) Friesen, Del (Cindy) Fast, Linda (Herman) Peters, Rose (Gerry) Friesen, Delores (Steve) Plett and Hank (Sandra) Fast, 45 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, five sisters and two sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his wife Helen in 1998, and one granddaughter Teresa in 2013. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 13 at Kleefeld Evangelical Mennonite Church at 2:00 p.m. Viewing will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Saturday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The family expresses their appreciation to the caring medical team: Dr Gillette, Dr Reimer, Debbie, Pauline, Brenda and the Bethesda Hospital staff.
