Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFLORENCE (GWENN) MCKENZIE (nee GARRAWAY) It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Gwenn McKenzie announce her peaceful passing on September, 3 2015, surrounded by loved ones. Gwenn was born in Meyronne, Saskatchewan to Fred and Clara Garraway. As a child, she lived in many small towns in southern Saskatchewan making treasured lifelong friends. It was during her early career with Sears, that Gwenn met her husband Chuck of 55 years and they made homes together in Regina, Victoria, Calgary then Winnipeg in 1963. Her past four years were spent at Sturgeon Creek 1, where she enjoyed participating in group activities and socializing with friends. Gwenn always had a ready smile that would light up a room, a warm heart and was so much fun to be with. She loved animals, nature, family, friends and all in turn loved her. An avid traveller, she enjoyed numerous trips with family and friends to Europe, Hawaii, Florida and Las Vegas. As a young lady, Gwenn was a vocalist with the Kingsters, and later enjoyed attending the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Rainbow Stage. Gwenn enjoyed two bridge clubs for years with many dear friends. While raising a family, Gwenn was an active community volunteer with the Silver Heights United Church and Grace Hospital. Gwenn was extremely family oriented. Gwenn's happiest times were spent with her daughters, sons-in-law and three grandchildren who were so very precious to her. Gwenn was immensely proud of her family and all of their accomplishments. Her family was the love and light of her life. Gwenn was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Clara Garraway; husband Chuck; brother Roy; and sister Phyllis. Left to cherish and honour her memory, Marcia McKenzie-Hodge (Brian Hodge), grandson Kurtis; Sandra McKenzie (Doug), granddaughter Krystyn, grandson Kenny. She will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, both young and old. Our mom (grandma) was such a beautiful lady both inside and out, and we will all miss her so very much. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Saturday, October 10 at 10:00 a.m. Private interment will take place followed by a reception. Donations in Gwenn's memory may be made to the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre or any pet shelter of your choice. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
