MAURICE EDMOND RIOUX
Date of Passing: Sep 10, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAURICE EDMOND RIOUX After a short illness Maurice Edmond Rioux passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre on September 10, 2015 at the age of 65 with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Leontine Rioux. His memory will be cherished by his spouse of 13 years and best friend Kelly Seward; his children, Eric, Christophe (Melissa), Lindsey (Daniel Bauer), Edmond, and Carl; his grandchildren, Josh, Evan, Sydney, and Hunter; his nephews Dylan and Nicholas Seward; his siblings Simone Driscoll, Solange (Hank) Pastuszak, Philippe (Lyse), Helene Hayes, Marcel (Marlene), and Raymond (Pauline), and his extended family and dear friends. Maurice was born and raised in St. Pierre where he learned to work hard farming. He was a principled, compassionate, and dedicated Winnipeg Police Officer for 37 years where he felt privileged to serve the people of Winnipeg. He retired in 2006 and went back to his building roots as a carpenter where he built his dream lakefront home with Kelly in Pebble Beach. He had a roofing business while he was a policeman that has now been successfully expanded by his son Chris. Maurice was the hardest worker you have ever known. He would never do things the easy way, but always the right way. His children coined the expression the "Rioux Charm" after their father as it was so natural to fall under his spell. Maurice's interests included traveling and golfing with Kelly, carpentry projects, helping his children, farming, cheering on the Jets, and making us laugh at his stories. Moe left us too soon, but his spirit lives on. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the St. Bernadette Parish, 820 Cottonwood Road, Windsor Park, with Fr. Fred Olds presiding. Special thanks to the Gimli Hospital and Health Sciences Centre MICU, especially Dr. Amir Beik, Cindy, Kim, and Lindsay. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make donations in memory of Maurice to the Gimli Hospital, 120-6th Avenue, Box 250, Gimli, MB, R0C 1B0 Canada. Maurice was my partner in D5 at the time that he was building his house on Dugas St. As I remember, he did everything, even the stucco. The man had talent but he didn't rest on his laurels, he worked hard. He was a dedicated policeman and I loved working with him. He was cheery and fun to be with. My condolences to his family. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Denis Robert (co-worker) on: Sep 15, 2015

Maurice was the best and hardest working police partner I ever had, and a dear friend. I'm very sorry I did not get to see him again after leaving Manitoba 25 years ago. I will never forget his inspiration, his fun-loving good nature, and his beautiful family. À dieu mon bon ami. My sincere condolences to all his loved ones. - Posted by: Gary Hawkes (friend) on: Sep 15, 2015

My deepest condolences to Kelly, Eric, Christophe, Lindsay, Carl and Edmond. Uncle Moe was an amazing man who has the energy of 100 people. Whether it was building a roof or a whole house, it was built with love. We will miss you but just know when anyone is at Gimli, watching the sun set, hold up your drink, toast the universe and say, here's to you Uncle Moe. Love you from Texas. - Posted by: Stephanie Hayes (Niece ) on: Sep 14, 2015

I had the good fortune early in my police career to work for Patrol Sergeant Maurice Rioux in District 4. He was a hard working, enthusiastic cop. His energy level and positive attitude was a plus for a young cop to follow. - Posted by: Glen Smyth (co-worker) on: Sep 14, 2015
