O. LEO DAVIS February 6, 1925 - September 10, 2015 It is with heartfelt sadness the family announces the passing of Leo Davis on September 10, 2015 at Riverview Health Centre. Leo is survived by his wife Pauline of 65 years, son Stuart (Lori), daughter-in-law Gail, grandsons Kyle (Kaleigh) and Scott (Mariel), great-grandsons Emerson, Nash and Calder as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Chris, grandson Chad, parents Gilbert and Rose, siblings George, Helen, Adele, Thomas, Muriel and Thelma. Leo was born on February 6, 1925 in Edmonton. He joined the RCAF in 1943 when he was 18 and served overseas. He was a proud pilot officer in the Second World War. Leo enjoyed sharing his stories of the time spent as a pilot serving his country. Upon his return to Edmonton, he was employed in the printing trades. Leo met his wife Pauline when they were playing baseball in the Printer's League. They married in 1951. Their son Chris was born a few years later, followed by Stuart. He was a very proud and devoted dad, grandpa and great-grandpa to all his boys. A true entrepreneur, Leo was a founding partner in Universal Bindery Saskatchewan before he moved to Winnipeg and established Universal Bindery Manitoba in 1969. He was a man with a strong work ethic who always strived for maximum efficiency. Even after retirement from the binding industry, his practical, common sense thinking prevailed in everything he undertook. He always wanted to ensure there was no waste involved! Leo retired in 1985. Shortly after retirement, Pauline and Leo built a home in the Lac du Bonnet area where they enjoyed many years. They were able to travel throughout North America where he loved to golf away the winters in Florida. In true Leo fashion, when the price of health care became too exorbitant, Leo and Pauline spent their winters on Vancouver Island. During retirement, he became a master cross stitcher. His award winning pieces hang in the homes of his family and friends where they are admired by anyone who sees them. Leo was diagnosed with kidney cancer in the spring of 2013. He remained active and independent with a twinkle in his eye until his admission to Riverview, four days before his death. His positivity was an inspiration to anyone he met. The family would like to thank his family doctor Shawn Thomas, the WRHA Palliative Care Program, Riverview Health Centre 3E staff especially Dr. Marcelo Garcia, Dr. Kim Wiebe and his nurses Tanis and Tony. Cremation has taken place. At Leo's request, a private family service has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St., Winnipeg R3B 1M3.
