Born: Aug 21, 1931
Date of Passing: Sep 11, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLESLIE R. BURCH August 21, 1931 - September 11, 2015 Surrounded by family, Leslie peacefully left us to be with our Lord and Saviour. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Svava Burch (nee Sigurdson) and his only brother Einar (Albina) in 2008. Leslie will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 58 years, Noella (nee Todd) and his six children: Lesley, Laverne (Mike), Kim (Paul), Ron (Teresa), Stan (Jen) and Thelma (John). He was blessed to have grandchildren: Erika, Derrik, Jessica, Jordan, Sean, Simon, Phillip, Mikita and Quinlan. Leslie was inspired to work on the railroad by his grandfather and father for the C.P.R. at the young age of 16. It was reliable work and it paid the bills for the ever expanding family. The extra trips earned him the nickname "Miles Burch". He put in 42 years as a Locomotive Engineer and loved his runs on the passenger trains. Dad had many passions that kept him busy during retirement. He was a strong believer in staying active and keeping fit. He enjoyed long daily walks with his wife, usually with a dog or two. He enjoyed his golf games, traveling to Arizona or taking a cruise. Leslie was always looking for a good bargain especially in the flea markets down south. He loved volunteering at the Local Senior Center " High Steppers", playing cribbage, card games and enjoying that bowl of soup with friends. Leslie was a people person. You could always find him talking and socializing with everyone. He had a soft spot for his beloved "Westie". (We enviously called her his 7th child.) The family wish to express their deep thanks and gratitude to the nurses and many healthcare aides at St. Boniface 4A and Misericordia 5th floor who gave him comfort and compassion. Special thanks to Dr. MacGregor and Dr. Banerji. Also Pastor Jeff Romas was so important to Dad during his illness. He spent many visits providing Dad with spiritual comfort and guidance. Thank you so much Jeff. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Leslie's name at CancerCare (Manitoba Division) 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9 or donations may be made online. A memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. You are forever in our hearts! We will truly miss our dear friend Les. High Steppers has not been the same without his smiling face, and gentle laugh. His crib partners have missed him for a while and will be very sad to hear of his loss. He was a good man with a very large heart, and helped the High Steppers out for many many years. Driving clients, and washing dishes were his way of helping others. He must have washed thousands of dishes for us, and always wanted to. Our Condolences to the family and to his wife Noella. We love you all. - Posted by: Liz Chammartin (Friend) on: Sep 16, 2015
