Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLYDIA (LIL) MARTHA RUPPEL (nee SCHNEIDER) September 10, 1919 - September 12, 2015 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother at the age of 96 years. Lydia grew up in the north end of Winnipeg where she married the love of her life, William (Bill) in 1943. During their 65 years of wedded bliss, together they raised their devoted children, Larry (Linda) and Darlene Wheeler (Jim). Her six treasured grandchildren are her pallbearers - Lyle, Tyler (Erin), Jared (Christine), Courtney, Christopher (Marie), and Chelsea (Christopher). Lydia is also survived by her brother Victor Saunders (Chris), and her seven precious great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Alison, Charlotte, Isla, Thompson, Samuel, and Sloane. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Karoline Schneider; her three sisters Wilhelmina, Katherine, and Caroline; and her three infant siblings Emilia, Jakob, and Wilhelm. After graduation from high school, Mom worked at the Winnipeg Book Bindery for 10 years for her Uncle John. Her working life later included the china department at Eaton's where she became an indispensable source of knowledge and proficiency for 20 years. She took great pride in sharing her passion for fine china. Mom and Dad were faithful members of Redeemer Lutheran Church all their lives until it closed its doors permanently in 2001. Together they both loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations with their children and grandchildren. Mom's cooking and baking were much celebrated by her family. She was a loving, generous person who was always thinking of others before herself. She was a devoted wife and mother. The memory of her unconditional love and support for Dad and all her family will remain with us forever. We will miss her always but take comfort in knowing Mom and Dad are now reunited and are with their Lord. The family would like to thank the staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital, 5th floor Unit 1 and 2, for the loving and caring attention they gave our Mom and also for their understanding and compassion at this difficult time. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Alzheimer Society, or a charity of your choice. Just think of her as living In the hearts of those she touched For nothing loved is ever lost And she was loved so much "We're going to miss you, Mom!" Glen Eden Funeral Home & Cemetery 204-338-7111
