Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY SALATESKI (MAYBRODA) (nee SOLUK) June 6, 1924 September 15, 2015 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Salateski on September 15, 2015. My mom was a beautiful and loving person. I couldn't have asked for a better mother. She never complained. She went peacefully and with dignity. Left to cherish her memory is her loving son Eugene Maybroda; grandsons Chris (Alex), Brent (Candy); granddaughter Rhonda (Bryan) Lamirande and seven great-grandchildren. Sisters Anne Porter, Alice Weidman, Margaret (Peter) Letwin, Stephanie (Ernie) Baydock, Elaine (Alvin) Bauschke; brothers Donald and Mike Soluk, sisters-in-law Olga and Marilyn as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mary was born on June 6, 1924. She grew up on a farm in Thalberg, Manitoba. She lived with her grandparents for a few years and attended Mars School as it was closer for her to walk to and from; as she got older she continued her education at Thalberg School. In her late teens she moved to Toronto, Ontario where she worked in a factory for several years. When her mom passed away Mary returned home to look after her little sisters and brothers. She became the "substitute" mother. Mary married Pete Maybroda on September 29, 1951. They had one son Eugene. Her husband passed away in 1963 and she continued living on the farm for a couple of years, then she moved into the city and worked as a cook at the Health Science Cafeteria. She met and married Steve Salateski in 1967 and together they shared 25 plus good years. Mary was friendly, always willing to help wherever she could and as a result had many friends. Family members wonder what would have happened to the siblings had Mary not been so willing to change her lifestyle to becoming a "young substitute mom". Her smile was very contagious. Stories told about the ``good old days`` were always a joy to listen too. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Nellie and Steve Soluk; husbands Pete Maybroda (1963) and Steve Salateski (1993); her daughter- in-law Diane Maybroda (2014) granddaughter Debbie; brothers Herbie, Lawrence, and John Soluk; sister-in-law Helen Soluk and brothers-in-law Alex Porter and Roy Weidman. Divine Liturgy will take place at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Beausejour on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.
