PAULA PRIER 1931 - 2015 Paula Prier (née Thaller) passed away suddenly on September 12, 2015. She leaves behind her husband Ralph Prier, son Manfred Thaller (Christiane), grandson Werner Thaller, and numerous relatives in Austria. Paula was born in Upper Austria in 1931, and after finishing school she trained as a seamstress. She became a mother at 18. In 1954, she immigrated to Canada, where she settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba, leaving her son in the loving care of his grandparents in Austria. After working as a housekeeper for a family in Winnipeg, she found employment in the retail industry. Paula's last place of employment was at the Balmoral Hotel, where she took on front desk duties and later became the accountant. Paula met and married Ralph Prier in the late 1960s. Paula was a caring person and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She often travelled with Ralph to faraway places, to visit relatives in Upper Austria, where she grew up. They also took many trips to Mexico, which was their favourite destination. Paula loved dogs, especially her two dachshunds, Fritz and Max. Paula was always willing to give advice to her family on how to behave and conduct their affairs in life, and she was never shy to express her opinions when asked. She enjoyed maintaining and caring for her home, together with Ralph, where they spent many pleasant times with friends and family. She had to struggle over the last couple of decades with various health-related setbacks, but she was always determined to overcome them, and continued to enjoy what life had to offer. She will be sadly missed. Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glint on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you wake in the morning hush, I am the swift, uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circling flight. I am the soft starlight at night. Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there, I did not die! Mary Frye (1932) In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. A private celebration with friends and family of Paula's life will be held at a future date. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • My heart breaks at the loss of this wonderful woman! I didn't know her long and I didn't know her well, but every time her and her husband came into my store she was always smiling brighter than the sun. Even on the days she wasn't feeling 100% she was always there with a smile and some laughs. I will miss seeing her face throughout my weeks. My prayers go out to her family and I am saying a special prayer for her husband who I have also grown very fond of! Rest in Peace Paula! - Posted by: Kayla B. () on: Sep 21, 2015
