KATHLEEN (KATE) SMELTZ (nee RAY) It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathleen (Kate) Smeltz at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday, August 23, 2015. Kathleen was born June 5, 1964 in Winnipeg, MB to Patricia and Gordon Ray. She was the youngest of three children. Kathleen was predeceased by her mother Patricia, her grandparents, numerous aunts and uncles, and her puppy dog Baxter. She is survived by her husband Kerry, son Steven, her father Gordon Ray, brother Ken Ray (Janice), sister Patti (Merv), mother-in-law Lorraine and father-in-law Elwin, brothers-in-law Kevin (Pauline), Phil (Renae), nieces Jennifer (Dwayne), Colleen (Wes), Lorilynn, Cassie (Randy), Brittney (Rick), great-nephews, Asher, Jagger, Lexon, Hayden, Tanner, and great-nieces Quinn, Sarah, Claire. Kathleen lived an active and full life. She met the love of her life Kerry in Winnipeg, fell in love, married and the city girl moved to the country and became a real country girl. Kathleen and Kerry were blessed with a son, Steven, whom she was so very proud of. Kathleen was very artistic and talented, her musical ability (piano), crafting, carpentry, were some of her interests. Her home was her pride and joy, with many restorations being done, she transformed her house into a home. Kathleen loved to travel, her ability to organize and plan trips was her passion. Kerry said she enjoyed the planning part more than the trip itself. Kathleen was a true and loyal friend to all those that she cared for, with many of her friends asking her for her opinion on many subjects. She was taken from us far too soon but her love and spirit will be with us forever. Our heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at the Selkirk Brain Injury Unit, Virden Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kathleen to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Virden Hospital or any charity of your choice. A celebration of her life will be held at Tundra Oil and Gas Place (Virden) on October 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715

  • Kate had a wonderful smile and a great laugh. I will remember playing scrabble with her in between hockey games when watching our boys play and feeling totally inept next to her. One smart cookie. Sincerest condolences to Kerry and Steven, all Kate's family and her friends. - Posted by: Marla () on: Sep 27, 2015

  • A beautiful person, inside and out. Many laughs were shared over the years. Memories to treasure. - Posted by: Jenny (Friend) on: Sep 19, 2015
