DOROTHY ELEANOR SANBURN 1925 - 2015 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our Mother, Dorothy, on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at West Park Manor, Winnipeg. She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters Cathy (Craig) Schrader, Sharon (Stan) Haines and Sandra Harris (Bruce Oige); five grandchildren Jeremy (Tammy), Meredith (Kyle), Corey (Michelle), Robyn (Blaine) and Breanne; eight great-grandchildren Jill (Will), Tyson, Kaomi, Hannah, Katelyn, Jaden, Maddison and Finn; as well as one great-great-grandchild, Pierceson. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Cecil in 2008, her parents Mary and Harry Snyder, and her sisters Aneita and Frances. Dorothy was born on November 21, 1925 in Gilbert Plains and moved to Argyle in 1929 with her family to farm just west of Argyle. Mom attended Brant Argyle School and upon graduation moved to Winnipeg and attended Russell Business Institute. Mom and Dad were married June 10, 1950 and started her life as a military wife. Military life saw them living in Calgary, Whitehorse, Borden and back to Winnipeg. It was Mom's job to set up house and to settle us girls into school and our activities. They made many friends across the country in their travels. In retirement, Mom and Dad were able to enjoy their time camping and fishing with Frank and Alice. They also traveled to England, Holland, Germany and Austria. They made several trips to both the East and West coast to visit with Cathy, Craig and family. Mom enjoyed curling in her younger year and then skipped each game she watched on T.V. She was an avid bowler for many years at Polo Park Lanes. She and Dad enjoyed and took part in Manitoba Senior games, enjoyed a game of cards with family and friends. Dorothy was a long time member of the St. James United Church and a member of the UCW Circle 5. Mom's greatest commitment was to her family. Whether it be baking cookies late in the evening, cheering at a hockey game or attending a dance recital, or maybe it was a phone call just to see how your day was going. The family would like to thank the Home Care workers who enabled Mom to stay at Sturgeon Creek I Residence as along as she did and to the staff at West Park Manor who cared for her these past two years. Your care and compassion was greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Sturgeon Creek United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to the Alzheimer's Society, or West Park Manor, or a charity of choice. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • So sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing. I spent a lot of time with the family in the 60s, joining them for several summer vacations. We went on camping trips, also spent time with the family on Mooregate St. I remember many good times spent with your family. And yes, Mrs Sanburn was a terrific cook. She will be missed. Take care, Leona - Posted by: Leona Nichol (Friend of the family for many years) on: Sep 20, 2015

  • So sad to hear of the passing of our much loved aunty. Many memories of the great food she created and the many calls to our mom to see how she was. We enjoyed the many family gatherings that Dorothy and Alice arranged so much fun and great memories. May the many great memories help you through this most difficult time. Wishing we could be there to offer support - Posted by: George and Lynne Scott, Lorna Preston (niece) on: Sep 19, 2015
