MARIE PALEN July 23, 1919 - September 16, 2015 Peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, Mom passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at the Hunter Memorial Hospital in Teulon. Mom will be greatly missed and forever loved by her children, Murray Ellison (Joan), Faye Kusnick (Richard), Jack Palen - Marilyn Palen, Shirley McMahon (Barry), Lorraine Smith, Linda Carlson, Frankie Palen, and daughter-in-law Stephanie Ellison. She also leaves to cherish her memory many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her family meant the world to her and brought her great joy. Marie was predeceased by her parents, Ed and Nora Campbell, her first husband Victor Elllison, her second husband Bill Palen, her three sons, Wayne, Dell and Campbell Ellison, her sister Esther Campbell, her brother Bruce Campbell, sons-in-law Vern Smith and Reg Carlson, and grandson Corey Carlson. Mom was born and raised in the Dundas area, where she grew up loving horses, music and barn dances on the family farm. One of her favourite memories as a girl was working in the field with her father and hearing him sing one of her favourite hymns, "Blessed Assurance". A country girl at heart, she attempted living in town twice, but each time she was called back to farm life. Mom and Bill pursued their love of horses, competing in many horse shows throughout the Interlake and beyond. She showed and drove her own horses as well as heavy horse teams in the ladies driving events. Mom's love of horses and music has been passed on through all generations of her family. Mom spent many hours volunteering in the community. Her talented piano playing was often enjoyed not only by family, but also by residents at the local senior centers. She was active with the United Church and the board of the Windsor Cemetery. Mom made everyone in her life feel valued and appreciated. She had grace, strength and a thankful heart. We were so blessed to have her in our lives. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Teulon-Rockwood Centennial Centre, Teulon, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kerr Graham, and all of the wonderful doctors, nurses and healthcare staff at Lions Manor, Teulon and Stonewall Hospitals who cared for Mom as if she was one of their own family. • Words cannot express the sympathy I feel for the family on the loss of Marie. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Always a smile and how are you doing. I will always remember her driving her horses down Windsor cemetery road as a kid. You could tell she was in her glory. Recently she transferred to Teulon hospital from Stonewall and I had the chance to reconnect with her after a lot of years. I wasn't sure if she would know me anymore, but she called me by name right away. I was so happy the she remembered me after all this time. I was truly thankful to have cared for her during her last days. She will always be in my thoughts and my sincere sympathy to all of the family, she was a blessing to have in your lives for so many years. Don't ever forget and know she is at peace. - Posted by: Michelle Hazelton(nee Brocker) (neighbour) on: Sep 20, 2015
