MARGARET SCALLEN
Date of Passing: Sep 24, 2015
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET SCALLEN (nee KONEFALL) With deep sorrow, our family announces the passing of Margaret Pauline Scallen into the peace of our loving God on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at St. Boniface Hospital, after facing many medical challenges with courage and perseverance. Left to cherish memories are her beloved family: sons Shawn and Craig; sister Alice Konefall, SNJM; cousin Pat Konefall; Sarah, Jessica, Georgia, and family. She was predeceased by her parents John and Pauline Konefall. Margaret was born in Winnipeg on October 3, 1936 and raised in a loving family. She graduated from Nelson McIntyre Collegiate (Commercial Course) and employed her secretarial skills for several years with CIBC and Canada Trust. In Ottawa, she devotedly raised her beloved sons. After moving back to Winnipeg, she worked with Cargill and later taught ESL to newcomers to Canada, followed by child care with Y Neighbours. Margaret had a keen interest in others. Relationships were important to her and she had a gift for reaching out to others, with her caring ways bringing her close to those she knew. She cherished visits with friends and family, and when travel was no longer possible Skype calls were a source of great joy, especially with Georgia. Margaret was a faithful member of St. Bernadette Parish, where she had served as a Eucharistic minister. We express our deepest gratitude to her sister Alice for devoted care, her many doctors (especially Dr. H. Groenewald), the staff and spiritual care at St. Boniface Hospital, her home care providers, and friends for their love and support. Eucharist of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Bernadette Church, 820 Cottonwood Rd. on Thursday, October 1 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to Winnipeg Harvest or a charity of choice. May songs of the angels welcome you. Rest in peace, dear Margaret. We're very sorry to hear about Auntie Margaret's passing. She was a true and steadfast friend to our mom, Gloria for over 50 years. Their friendship began when they were young and single working at Canada Trust and saw them through marriage, children, divorce, and illness. Some of our mom's favorite memories were all the fun times at West Hawk with Auntie Margaret and Sister Alice. Her kindness and generosity will be sorely missed by all. On behalf of Gloria and the rest of our family, our prayers and deepest condolences to Auntie Margaret's family. - Posted by: Stacey Woods, Mike Harynuk & family ((daughter/son of long-time friend Gloria Harynuk)) on: Oct 01, 2015

I am so grateful to have reconnected with Margaret a few weeks ago on a trip to Winnipeg. We had not seen each other in over 20 years. I feel blessed to have shared a wonderful evening reconnecting and sharing our memories of the past. She was a wonderful warm loving lady who will be missed by so many. With Love and Prayers to all the family for your loss. - Posted by: Dian McCreary (Family) Sept. 29, 2015 (Cousin by marriage) on: Sep 30, 2015

I had met Margaret a few times in Ottawa while she would visit her sons and their families. She was always friendly, caring and loved to laugh. I will miss her phone calls. Margaret will never be far from our thoughts - Posted by: Jean Brown (Friend) on: Sep 28, 2015
