Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIVANHOE (IVAN) JOSEPH LEBLANC September 18, 1938 - September 23, 2015 After a brief courageous battle with cancer, Ivan passed into Peace, his beloved wife Connie, at his side. Ivan was born in Carleton Sur Mer in the Gaspe, Quebec, son of Alexandre and Rose Alba LeBlanc. He leaves Connie, his loving wife of 55 years and nine surviving brothers and sisters and their families scattered throughout Quebec and Ontario to mourn his passing. Ivan was predeceased by his eldest sister, two brothers-in-law and his parents. Ivan arrived in Winnipeg in the spring of 1960 and began a long and challenging career as a hydro lineman with the City Hydro Overhead Construction crew. Throughout his working years, he was an active member of CUPE Local 500 and held an Honorary Life Membership in the Electrical and Mechanical Unit. Ivan and Connie married October 22, 1960 and gradually he adjusted to his new life and language hurdles in Manitoba and his Ukrainian in-laws. Over the years, many precious extended family relationships were developed, shared mutual joys, sorrows or merely the mutual giving or receiving support in times of need. Ivan was always genuinely interested in the well-being of his friends, neighbours, fellow workers and their families or folks at the store or passing by. Our home was open to diverse cultures from both the academic and local communities which so enriched our lives and minds. Ivan loved hosting and sharing feasts, celebrations or simply kicking back to relax with cross word puzzles or a little scotch-sampling with like-minded fans. Among his community and assorted volunteer activities, Ivan returned to playing hockey, and later, mentoring and coaching children, thus becoming "Uncle Ivan" to the admiring kids. He was known to never hesitate giving a helping hand wherever needed, with his trademark humour or empathy. Another passion was his concern and love of wildlife and their habitat. He created the yard into a small urban sanctuary for the birds and assorted small creatures, nurturing their needs throughout the four seasons. He looked forward to his travels to annually visit family members or dear friends from coast to coast. His dream trip of being abroad in the late 1970s was surpassed by the ultimate experience of attending the Vancouver Olympic Games a few years ago. Ivan's zest for sports had led him to becoming a collector of Olympic pins and souvenirs. While at the Games, he mingled with an assortment of celebrities, and was featured on national television and publications as a leading Olympic pin collector, "modestly" becoming known internationally as the "Winnipeg Olympic Pin Man". He served as Vice-President and was a member of the Winnipeg Pin Collectors Club for several years. Ivan was also a proud and dedicated member of the Masonic fraternity. He belonged to several Concordant organizations serving in various capacities including Treasurer and Recorder. Among them were the Masonic Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Cryptic Rite Masons, Knights Templar, Red Cross of Constantine and the Order of the Secret Monitor. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015, 11:00 a.m., Victoria Inn, Embassy Room. Lunch will follow the service. In lieu of floral offerings, we request consideration to donate in his Memory to the Manitoba Masonic Foundation, 420 Corydon Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, CancerCare Manitoba, or to any humanitarian charity or animal welfare organization of your choice. Our deepest gratitude and love goes to our families, extended families, special friends, neighbours, Masonic fraters and their Ladies, for their generous, loving support and help through the difficult times. Ivan deeply appreciated the visits, prayers, expressions of good wishes and cards. We are blessed having you in our lives and you will always be in our hearts. We also thank the efforts of the Medical team of GH6 at the Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate care. And lastly, for taking on the duties of Chaplain and adviser, a heartfelt thank you to Jack Hooper. Rest in Peace in the arms of an Angel Until we meet again Forever in My Heart NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

I have had the pleasure of knowing Ivan LeBlanc since the 70's when I became active in CUPE Local 500 as a member of the Power Plants Unit. Through my association with Ivan over many years my respect and admiration for this generous man grew and grew. We worked on many Hydro related projects and we negotiated on behalf of our fellow workers. Ivan was always a pillar of support for anyone lucky to have known him. It was a privilege to know Ivan as a fellow member of the Cupe Local 500 Honorary Life fellowship and as a former president of Honorary Life I will mourn his loss while always remembering his leadership. Our condolences to the family. On behalf of all Honorary Life members may peace be with you. - Posted by: Norm & Pat Norris (Friends) on: Oct 02, 2015

Ivan was a good friend and brother. Over all the years that we had as Masonic Brothers and a friendship that was always appreciated it formed a strong bond. When ever we met it was always the big smile, friendly words of conversation and the strong handshake of a honest man. This will be sadly missed, but always held in my heart. Until we meet again..... - Posted by: Robert Hooper (Friend and Masonic Brother) on: Oct 01, 2015

Ivan was a longtime customer of mine, patronizing several establishments I worked in. He was always a laugh as every visit was very expressive no matter what the topic! He truly will be missed by myself and all the staff at The Preferred Perch, not to mention the many critters he adored. To Connie, we offer you our warmest thoughts. Rest well Ivan. - Posted by: Sherrie Versluis (Friend) on: Sep 29, 2015

Every time I saw Ivan at Starbuck Lodge or Kimberly Temple he had a huge smile, hug and a mooch for me. I will miss that! He was a great masonic brother to my husband Geoff before he passed away from Cancer. Now the two can be Lodge brothers again in heaven. My condolences to Connie and the entire family as well as the Masonic Family. Another hole has been left in the golden chain. Rest well Ivan and watch for us. - Posted by: Andrea Stewart (Friend through Masonic Family) on: Sep 29, 2015

To Connie and all family members, my sincerest condolences on behalf of CUPE. Ivan was a respected worker at Winnipeg Hydro and a strong union activist, he helped many co-workers over the years and was liked by all. He was a staunch Habs fan and was always ready to talk hockey. He was also an avid collector of union pins, as well as all kinds of other pins. Mostly, he was for me a friend and a colleague, someone I always looked forward to seeing at the annual CUPE 500 Honourary Life Dinner. Repose toi mon ami.
