JOANNE ANGELA SCHROF (SMERCHANSKI) Peacefully at home, on Thursday, September 24, 2015, Joanne Schrof of Starbuck, MB passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer. She leaves her loving husband of 40 years, Mervin, daughters Jerilyn (Larry), Stacey (Matt), granddaughter Morgan, sister Donna, as well as many nieces and nephews. Joanne was a loving and devoted mother and wife; spending time with family, friends, and her dogs was what she loved best. She also enjoyed traveling (trips to Arizona, cruising, and camping at Clear Lake). Joanne graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing in 1974 and immediately started working with the Victorian Order of Nurses. She worked at the Victoria Hospital as a home care case coordinator until January 2014. Joanne was passionate about giving back to her community, as evidenced through her 20 year involvement with 4-H, and by teaching Sunday School. Music was her passion; in addition to being the church pianist, she had been actively involved in the Meridian Arts Festival for 18 years. Tireless in her work, inexhaustible in her care for others, and unconditionally loved, Mom will be greatly missed and always in our hearts. We would like to thank all of those who provided their compassion and support to Joanne, including close family, friends and Starbuck home care staff. A celebration of Joanne's life will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Starbuck Trinity Lutheran Church. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba. Doyle's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. www.doylesfuneralchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • Joanne was a remarkable nurse. I had the opportunity to work with her at Victoria Hospital, and she was always cheerful, happy and kind. She often brightened my day, as we would joke about many things, and laugh often. When Joanne was dealing with a case- my mind was assured all things would get done, and done properly. She was very dedicated. Rest in peace Joanne. Peace & Blessings to your family. - Posted by: Lorena Thiessen (Co-worker) on: Oct 01, 2015

  • I would stop in for just a few minutes and was always welcome. Was great to have her as a friend and neighbor, I watched the girls grow into ladies with her and she was just a good friend to have. I will miss our short visits. - Posted by: Sandra Halstead (cousin and friend) on: Oct 01, 2015

  • No words can ever express your kindness and compassion to me thru my husband's sickness when I would phone from Vancouver. I loved you talking to me and loved sending you cards and messages of hope that I sent once a month. You were the most wonderful and greatly missed. I will light cradle for you. • Jerilyn, So sorry to hear about your Mom. I know your hearts are broken. Know that I am keeping you in my thoughts & prayers. - Posted by: Pat Huntley (Friend of Jerilyns ) on: Sep 29, 2015

  • It has been my privilege to have known Joanne and shared in making music with her for many years. We played together for many events and she was always ready to give her time for others. The church choir also benefited from her extraordinary talent as an accompanist where she always stood back and let others take the credit which was rightfully hers. Most of all it was my honour to call her my friend. She leaves a void which can never be filled. - Posted by: Margaret Porter (Friend ) on: Sep 29, 2015

  • Joanne was a wonderful, dedicated, and exceptional nurse who was always focused first and foremost on the client and his/her needs. Joanne's support to her colleagues and her kindness and humour will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Margarete Moulden (colleague) on: Sep 29, 2015

  • I am sure going to miss you Joanne. Keep watching out for all of us. I'll remember you often every time I make one of your recipes, hang an ornament you made for me and every holiday that you let me come and join your family when I couldn't make it home to be with my own. I Love and miss you! Be at peace. ~Hollie : ) - Posted by: Holly Anderson (Family friend) on: Sep 29, 2015
