VASILIKI (Vicky) FOULIDIS 1946 2015 After a short struggle with lymphoma, Vicky succumbed peacefully in the afternoon of October 6, 2015. She had just celebrated her 69th birthday on October 3rd. We are grateful for the numerous family and friends who came to visit Vicky in her last days. The stories and episodes shared about Vicky's life were a great comfort and gave us a deeper understanding of the kind of woman our mother and Yia Yia was. At the age of 19, Vicky left her village Agrosikia Pellas, Greece to come to Canada to join her brothers Kyriakos and Leo to forge a new life for her and her eventual family. After marrying our Dad, Anastasios Foulidis, the young couple established themselves in Winnipeg with hard work and determination. After our Dad's passing in February 1987; Vicky had to take on both roles of mother and father. She was an example to her children of what working hard for her family, having commitment and dedication to her children could do. Vicky established a long career with Crown Cap. This became her second family and she made many lifelong friends. She was deeply touched by the outpouring of well wishes she received from her friends at Crown Cap on her last birthday. While Vicky embraced Canada, she remained connected to her Greek roots. Vicky made several return trips to Greece over the years. Vicky enjoyed travelling and she most fondly remembered her trip to Hawaii in 2005. As her life continued, Vicky was ecstatic to become a Yia Yia. Her four grandchildren were a constant joy in her life. There was no request from her grandchildren that she would not meet; like repairing zippers, making special dish requests or getting that special toy. In this short story of Vicky, we can only share a glimpse of the woman she was. Ultimately, it was the unreserved love she gave to all of us that we will remember and value. We will miss her presence terribly but are comforted in the knowledge that her spirit will always be with us. Vicky is survived and remembered by her children; daughter Maria (Gary), son Peter (Dana), grandsons Donald, Adam and Kai; granddaughter Malea, brother Leo (Sophia), Brothers in-law Kosta (Teresa), Dimitrios (Lina), Sister in- law Sophia, numerous nephews, nieces and friends. We extend our gratitude to the staff at Health Sciences Centre 4th floor GH ward for their compassion and understanding in helping Vicky and her family in the last few days. Prayers will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 7:00 pm at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant; the Funeral Service at the same location Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 10:00 am with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Vicky's memory to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or CancerCare Manitoba. Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway in care of arrangements, 204-783-7211

On behalf of Theo, Thea, and Simon, I express our deepest sympathies to Thea Vicky’s family and offer our prayers. Her kindness, hard work, and caring for family and friends can only be matched by a strong vitality for life projected to everyone she met. The wisdom in life she imparted upon us over years was heartfelt and always brought rays of light to our lives. The many past family gatherings are fondly remembered. It was once said: “Not life, but good life, is to be chiefly valued.” (Socrates). Thea’s life was truly invaluable. Eonia Eimnemi (May her memory be eternal). - Posted by: William Constan & Family (Family) on: Oct 10, 2015
