YUEN WAI LEONG Peacefully, on Thursday, October 8, 2015, our father and grandfather, Yuen Wai Leong passed away at the aged of 83 years. Yuen Wai will be lovingly remembered by Winnie Shui Kwan, his wife of 50 years; his son Kelly; daughter Connie (Raymond) and grandchildren, Taren (Michael), Resa, Kayla, Bravon, Kai and Cassandra. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kathy in 2012; brother Leong Yuen Pui; sister Sui Lau Chiu in 2015 and his parents Leong Hin Yee and Leong Lee See. Yuen Wai was born in Macau, China in 1932, the youngest of three children. In 1952 he emmigrated from Macau, China to Canada where he worked for the Nan King Restaurant for 12 years. In 1964, he went back to Hong Kong to marry our mother. It was during the height of the civil unrest in Hong Kong in 1968 that he decided to move the family to Canada for a better life. Dad began to work at the Chinese Food Delivery Service where he made many lifelong friends. Through hard work and long hours his proudest accomplishment was purchasing the family home on Teakwood Ave. where he lived for over 40 years. Dad would eventually come to own several other businesses, Oriental Arts and Crafts and Peter's Cafe. Dad was an honourable man in the truest sense and well respected within the Chinese community. He was a simple family man but always enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be sadly missed. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff, doctors and friends at Sterling House, Deer Lodge Centre and Misericordia Interim Care Health Centre. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, October 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave. (across from Brookside Cemetery), Winnipeg, MB.
