TERRY FALCONER Peacefully, and surrounded by his family at home, Terry passed away October 9, 2015 at 73 years of age after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents George and Evelyn, and survived by his wife of 50 years, Irene, sons Andrew (Leanne), Jamie and Rob (Lindsey), grandchildren Lauren, Colten, Megan and Hailee, brother Clark (Anita), sister Cindy, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Born in Winnipeg, Terry spent his childhood between Winnipeg and Edmonton. He graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and then entered the field of his passion...numbers. He started down the path of attaining his C.A. Degree articling at the Provincial Auditors Office and Northern Health Unit receiving his degree in 1966. He then began a 32 year career at the University of Manitoba in 1966, he held many positions at the University of Manitoba culminating in being appointed the Vice President of Administration, a position he held for the last 12 years of his career. He served on numerous boards and received the FCA Designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1998. He was well traveled and loved his time spent Down Under with Irene and friends from both Canada and Australia. His life work and crowning achievement was the cottage at Lake of the Woods, he could have been a master carpenter with the end result being truly magnificent. It became a summer home to him and Irene and a gathering place for the entire family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Joel Gingerich, Dr. Cornelius Woelk and the Southern Health R.H.A. • I have known Terry for 32 years as a university colleague. Managing budgets and finances for universities is a complex issue and a demanding task particularly when government funding is decreasing. Through that network colleagues often compare notes and I always found Terry to be ahead of the crowd in coming up with innovative budget strategies. He was a great example for all of us. Sincere condolences to Irene and family. - Posted by: Denis Bérubé (University Colleague) on: Oct 15, 2015

  • Terry was our neighbour at Echo Bay. We spent many good times at the cottage and remember the adventerous trips to Ash Rapids restaurant. Diane and I travelled to Australia with Irene and Terry and had one of the most incredible vacations! The Falconers joined us in Parksville for a month (not as warm as Australia), but good company always prevailed. There are numerous memories that shall be cherished forever. Terry will be joining his good friend Diane in heaven. - Posted by: Bud Ulrich (friend) on: Oct 15, 2015

  • It's difficult to sum up Terry in just a few words. A great spirit, a voice of reason, a sense of humour and a no-nonsense approach. Our condolences to his Irene and his family. He will be sadly missed. And the world will be a little smaller without him. - Posted by: Jannine LeMere (cousin and co-worker) on: Oct 15, 2015

  • We met Irene and Terry in the 70s when our lake gang bought p455 and discovered the eagle and 8 of us crossed the bay to build our cottages . I often phoned Falconer's and asked for " the Brain " when one of us had a problem ( usually Ken ) .. Terry was always available to help and usually could solve the problem based on past experience. Terry loved Echo Bay but his most treasured possessions were obviously Irene , Andrew, Jamie, and Robbie - he was lucky to have them and their families around most of the summer...for 35 years .... And we were lucky to have him as a friend and neighbour. Dee and Kelly, Greg, Grant, & Darren and families. - Posted by: Dee and Kelly (Echobay settler) on: Oct 15, 2015

  • Andrew we are with such regret that when we last saw you not too long ago, that you were enduring this eventual loss of your dear dad. I am sorry, we did not know. You have been contending with much sadness our friend and our heart goes out to you and your family. Bill and I send our sincere condolences. - Posted by: bill and jill palmer (business friends of Andrew) on: Oct 14, 2015

  • I had the pleasure of working for Terry from 1995 until his retirement at the University of Manitoba as well as a support for the Winnipeg Rh Institute Foundation until 2012. Terry was an incredible Vice-President and had a wonderful sense of humour which made my job so enjoyable. I know he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Irene and family, my heartfelt condolences for your loss. Rest in peace my friend! Carroll and Doug Perich - Posted by: Carroll Perich (Past Employee and friend) on: Oct 14, 2015
