HELEN (PODDANY) HOLATKO In Loving Memory of Helen Holatko (88 years) who passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Victoria General Hospital. Predeceased by her beloved husband Tony, her parents Joseph and Antonina Poddany, and sister Olga Holenski. Loving mother of James (Darlene), Charles (Monique), Jerry (Jane) and Linda. Cherished grandmother of Michael, Craig, Robert (Crystal), Neil, Shawn (Taya) and Suzanne. Dear sister of Mary Uglish and Tena (John) Rosina. She will be sadly missed by many nephews and nieces, especially Irene (Abe) Peters. Born in Moldava, Poland, Helen settled in Henribourg, SK with her family in 1939 where she met Tony and married in 1946. They eventually moved to Poplar Point where they farmed for many years. In 1964 they moved to Winnipeg, and while raising the family she worked at various jobs, the latest being The Salvation Army until her retirement in 1988. Mom enjoyed spending time with her family and the grandchildren looked forward to her baking. She liked walking and socializing with people over coffee. In her later years, she enjoyed reading and doing puzzles with her candy close by. We will miss her dearly but we know she is happy to finally be reunited with her love and soul mate, Tony. Special thanks to the staff at the Rosewood Retirement Residence and Victoria General Hospital for their kindness and care. Funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Helen was a wonderful aunt and a great baker. I remember many summers that we visited the farm and auntie would cook and bake all those wonderful goodies and especially her pies and trupkey. She will be missed and my condolences to all her children. - Posted by: Mary Haluza (Niece ) on: Nov 03, 2015

My deepest sympathy to the Holatko family. Since Helen has passed there hasn't been a day when I haven't thought of Helen and how much I miss her at Cedar house. She was good at teasing and with the other tenants so caring of their well being. I know she is in a good place, my only wish is that we could have had her a bit longer. Cherish the memories, I know I will. - Posted by: Darlene Diehl (Tenant companion Cedar house at the Rosewood) on: Oct 24, 2015
