ORLA LANE ORR (nee TAYLOR) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Orla. Orla was predeceased by Jack, her loving husband of 51 years. She will be greatly missed by her five children, Terrie (Laurie), Janice (Darcy), Jack (Carol), Susan (Harold), Jim, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many lifelong friends. With her optimism and beautiful smile Orla chose to make the most of every opportunity. She was gracious with a great sense of humor and a very big heart. She brought sunshine into the lives of all those who knew her. She was devoted to her family and friends, always interested in their lives and accomplishments and was sure to keep everyone informed of the latest happenings. Always the first to volunteer to help others, Orla gave back tirelessly to the people and communities she cared about. Ingolf was the place Orla and Jack loved the most. Orla made a commitment to travel to the cottage almost every weekend; it was not easy in those first years but the lake became her home. It was the gathering place where she enjoyed the best of times and countless celebrations with family and friends. "Gramma Orla" watched her grand and great grandchildren discover the joys of the lake. She would listen attentively to her little darlings as they told of their adventures up the creek or in the bush. From the countless wildflower bouquets she received and proudly displayed on her dining room table she was clearly everyone's favorite. Even at the lake, she stayed connected and involved with those she loved and what was happening in the world. When Jack was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, Orla not only cared for him daily but also volunteered and brought her positive support to the lives of the other residents and staff at Riverview where he stayed. Orla loved to be active and had a passion for life. Earlier in her life she ran marathons. In her 80th year, she completed one last marathon but this time it was a different kind of race, her battle with cancer. She had a summer that was filled with two wonderful birthday celebrations, many visits with family and friends and the joy of meeting her 10th great-grandchild, Orla pushed through her discomfort and savoured every moment of those last days with her family and friends. With the fall leaves in view out her window and with her family holding her close, Orla passed away on October 10, 2015. Orla wanted her final celebration to be her "Summer of Memories", a time for those who knew and loved her to connect one last time. She will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. P. The hardest thing to do in life is to say goodbye to your best friends.. We laughed together, cried together and Shared many wonderfully years of memories which Jim and I will cary in our hearts until we meet again..goodbye dear friend.. Orla and I first met years ago through her daughter Susan. I had the privilege of experiencing Ingolf and for a time being part of the wonderful Orr family. Orla and I reconnected a couple of years ago and spent quality visits together in Gimli with her friend Al Miller reminiscing while sharing good meals mixed with much laughter. She was always positive, larger than life with a sense of caring not seen in many people today. She had the most genuine laugh that came right from the bottom of her soul!! I was saddened to hear that she had passed and send kind condolences to Susan, Jack, Jim, Janice and Terrie. Orla was known to me as my aunt orla. She helped our family through tough times and I was fortunate enough to have spent some time out at west hawk lake in her and jacks cabin. I will always remember orla as a kind compassionate and loving person. This world would be wonderful if it was filled with orla orrs. I will always have a special place in my heart for her. Because of Terrie, Orla and I met. When we saw each other, we enjoyed each other's comPany. Orla was exceptional in the happiness she had for those around her when it was called for.
